Job Description

Position Summary:

This position is tasked to carry out the mandates of the Instructional Program of Old Redford Academy (“Academy”).

Salary:

Competitive and commensurate with experience.

Critical Components – Major Duties:

Administrative and Management

  • Ensure the Academy makes and maintains Adequate Yearly Progress.
  • Ensure practices that will meet academic goals.
  • Maintain state and/or NCA accreditation.
  • Supervise and evaluate Administrative School Team.
  • Assess, monitor and request all necessary instructional material for learning to take place (textbooks, supplemental materials, etc.).
  • Assist with employee selection process for instructional staff.
  • Verify and ensure that instructional materials are ordered, inventoried, received by the Academy and distributed to all necessary parties in a proper and timely manner.
  • Utilize cost effective practices at all times.
  • Ensure staff is properly trained on student code of conduct.
  • Conduct staff meetings.
  • Organize the Academy’s day-to-day functions.
  • Ensure Academy Board policies and directives are followed in relation to Academy policies and guidelines.
  • Effectively conduct classroom observations and evaluations of instructional staff.
  • Cooperatively and professionally perform any tasks assigned that promote the Academy’s mission statement.
  • Ensure discipline packets are thorough and complete prior to signing recommendation.
  • Review field trip requests to ensure educational objective.
  • Effectively demonstrate knowledge of and ensure compliance with teacher labor contract.
  • Ensure staff is following all policies, guidelines and procedures as directed by governing entities.
  • Review and ensure timely submission of requisitions to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Thoroughly review written requests/proposals prior to submitting to the Central Office.
  • Maintain rapport with students, parents, subordinates and management.
  • Ensure Academy-sponsored events/programs are thoroughly and properly planned in advance.
  • Maintain proper leadership of all building communication.
  • Attend management and Academy Board meetings; in this position’s absence, the Dean of Students will attend.
  • Timely and accurate submission of all tasks and assignments.
  • Respond to all levels of supervision.
  • It is the responsibility of this position to report any educational or safety issues to the appropriate party for resolution. If resolution does not occur, this position is further responsible to make this situation or problem known to a higher level of management or supervision.  Failure to do so could result in disciplinary actions.

 

NON-CRITICAL COMPONENTS:

Leadership

  • Represent the Academy’s mission in an effective manner, generating public support for the Academy’s program.
  • Serve as a role model for moral and ethical growth and socialization of the children.
  • Develop new ideas that promote and foster student character.
  • Work with parents and citizens in resolving community issues; establish positive relationships that support the Academy’s mission.
  • Establish and promote cohesiveness among staff members to work toward a common goal.
  • Encourage the leadership of others.

 

Other Duties Include

  • Maintain professional appearance and personal conduct at all times.
  • Demonstrate clear, concise and correct written and oral communication.
  • Report to work on time daily.
  • Work in close communication with the Compliance Specialist, Educational Coordinator and the Financial Specialist.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
  • 5-10 years of classroom teaching experience.
  • Management/leadership skills.
  • The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Academy.
  • Criminal background check required.
  • To the extent this position is deemed to be an administrator of instructional programs (including the supervisor of certified teachers) and/or a chief business official, this position is required to meet one of the following:  (1) if the individual held a school administrator position before January 4, 2010, then evidence of maintaining continuing education is required; or (2) if the individual was hired as school administrator after January 4, 2010, then either: (a) an Administrator Certificate is required; OR (b) enrollment in a Michigan Department of Education (“MDE”)-approved Principal Preparation Program within 6 months of employment (and completion within 3 years) is required. [Public Act 205 section 380.1246].
