Job Description

The Situation:

In our 30th year, dedication to helping the under employed, the unemployed, households in crisis and the homeless remains the foundation of our work.  South County Outreach provides a wide range of homeless prevention services to South Orange County residents who have lost jobs or have very-low incomes. These services include: a community Food Pantry where 3,000 residents a month receive an emergency supply of food;  Housing for homeless families each year in 17 South County Outreach owned condominiums (30 families annually); rental and utility assistance to help residents avoid eviction and/or shut off; individual case management services offering financial planning; a Computer Learning Lab which offers free computer skills classes for those trying to increase their skills for a higher paying job (600 students); and clothing vouchers at Upscale Resale Thrift Store.

South County Outreach seeks a new Grants Manager to help the organization continue their mission of ending hunger and homelessness. This position will report to the executive directors and is located in Irvine, CA



The position manages all grant responsibilities for the entire organization. The Grants Manager will develop and write letters of inquiry, concept papers, and proposals in support of South County Outreach efforts to secure support for general operations and designated programs. The employee will conduct research on foundation and corporate giving, interests and history to identify new funding opportunities. The employee must be available to work evenings and weekends. Due to the nature of this position, employee must have use of a vehicle, auto insurance and satisfactory driving record. The employee will coordinate South County Outreach internal processes of record keeping and report progress to donors. This is full time, in-house position.



 Prepare all grant submissions to meet annual grant income budget

 Research new funding opportunities 

 Develop an annual calendar of foundation submission dates and reports

 Make timely grant submissions for operations, program dollars and capital

 Review annual reports from donors as well as application guidelines to make appropriate application requests

 Research, analyze and report program statistical data

 Develop research/survey tools to build better grant reporting and submissions

 Establish and maintain working relationships with funding organization directors and staff to increase or secure funding

 Respond to inquiries from donors



 Meet all requirements for confidentiality of business and client information

 Meet all requirements for management of information, including data gathering, secure filing, and records retention

 Maintain knowledge of organizational policies and procedures

 Meet all applicable safety requirements of the position

 Organize workload throughout the day to meet project timelines and deadlines

 Ability to work well either alone or as part of a team

 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

 Ability to establish rapport and interact with diverse group of people 

 Demonstrated problem solving skills within crisis situations

 Ability to foster a positive, professional image for South County Outreach in the community 

 Knowledge of budgeting processes and outcomes measurements 

 Manage multiple priorities with attention to deadlines. 

 Superior writing, editing and verbal communication skills with the ability to turn data into a narrative



 Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree

 3 years writing experience
