Job Description

The Calais School is a state-approved provider of special education for students with special needs. The school serves students in grades K – 12+ with multiple learning disabilities. The Assistant Principal is responsible for leading the special education instructional program which includes, but is not limited to, planning, developing, implementing, and monitoring effective instructional delivery, faculty evaluations, school safety, professional development and student busing for the High School and 12 Plus Program.   The ideal candidate will have supervisory experience in special education and a NJ Principal Certification and Supervisor Certification

The ideal candidate must possess excellent leadership, organizational and communication skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

1. Supervisor certification—STANDARD

2. Principal certification - STANDARD

3. Successful teaching and professional experience with programs dealing with students with disabilities

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Supervise and evaluate the job performance of assigned certificated and non-certificated personnel for improvement.

2. Work cooperatively with building principal and school administrators to resolve issues and ensure the effective and efficient provision of special education programs and services.

3. Coordinate staff development for special services personnel, including child study team members, specialists, related services providers, teachers and aides. 

4. Evaluates the effectiveness of instructional methods and programs and recommends revisions as needed. 

5. Coordinates Bus and lunch duty supervision.

6. Coordinates and direct school safety programs 

7. Coordinates school-wide supplemental educational activities.

8. Coordinates and directs the Extended School Year Program

 

Background and Experience in the following would be a plus:

1. Therapy dog experience and/or interest in helping advance this program at Calais

2. Special Education Teaching and Supervision

3. High School background in math, science, English and computer technology

4. High School background in vocational training

5. High School background in transition services

6. PTO experience
