Occupational Therapist

Prepares students to respond appropriately to the education program. The OT works with team members in the school to enable the student to work toward his/her potential by improving, developing or restoring fine motor function to enable students to access their education.

Other duties may be assigned.

Provide occupational therapy services to identified students.

Problem solves to meet the students ever-changing needs.

Liaison with school personnel, family, physician and agencies through written and/or oral communication.

Equipment ordering, adaptation, fabrication, and repair.

Attend and participate in eligibility and IEP team meetings.

Evaluation assessment and screening of students

Planning to meet individual students and program needs.

Establish and maintain required records, reports and procedures

Set-up, maintain and clean treatment areas and OT equipment.

Travel to meet job requirements

Function as a team member with other related service staff.

Supervision of Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTAs) as necessary.

Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Occupational Therapist will supervise and provide input for the evaluation of the Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTAs).

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Masters degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department

  • NMPED Occupational Therapy License

  • New Mexico Medicaid Provider Number

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or styles. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advances mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply principles of logic or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phase. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
