Duties
Professional Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations to assess students' fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-regulation, handwriting, and daily living skills.
- Interprets evaluation results and contributes to Individualized Education Program (IEP).
- Develop measurable IEP goals and objectives, plan and implement therapeutic interventions that are educationally relevant.
- Designs and implements individualized interventions to improve students' ability to participate in school-related tasks.
- Provides direct and consultative occupational therapy services in classroom, small group, and one-on-one settings.
- Collaborates with teachers, special education staff, and parents to incorporate therapy strategies into the school environment.
- Adapts classroom materials and environments to support student participation and learning.
- Supervises and monitors Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) as required by the Illinois Occupational Therapy Practice Act to ensure compliance with professional and legal guidelines.
- Works as part of a multidisciplinary team, including special education teachers, speech-language pathologists, psychologists, and other school staff.
- Provides training and guidance to teachers, staff, and parents on strategies to support students' functional skills.
- Participates in IEP meetings, staff meetings, and professional development activities.
- Maintains accurate records, including evaluation reports, progress notes, and Medicaid billing as required.
- Monitors student progress and adjusts therapy plans accordingly.
- Maintains inventory of therapy equipment and supplies, ensuring materials are available for student needs.
- May require lifting, positioning, and assisting students with mobility needs.
- Works in multiple school settings, including classrooms, therapy rooms, and playgrounds.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
- Current Illinois licensure as an Occupational Therapist (OT) through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
- Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Support Personnel (Occupational Therapist) endorsement, as required by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
