PRINCIPAL
Primary Purpose:
Direct and manage instructional programs and supervise operations and personnel at the campus level. Provide leadership to ensure high standards of instruction. Oversee compliance with district policies, the success of instructional programs, and operation of all campus activities.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree from accredited university required; Master's Degree preferred
- Texas principal certificate preferred
- Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) appraiser preferred
- Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
- Ability to manage budget and personnel
- Ability to coordinate campus functions
- Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
- 3 years' experience as classroom teacher preferred
- School/ charter school administration preferred
Major Responsibilities & Duties:
Be a role model. Uphold school vision of nurture, character, discipline, and academic excellence. Work with the district to build his/her campus and all campuses.
Plan and implement a campus improvement plan that addresses student achievement, curriculum, and professional development needs. Provide two-way communication with district, faculty, staff, parents, and community.
Interview and make hiring recommendations for campus-level positions.
Supervise and evaluate teachers (T-TESS), teacher aides, and clerical support staff.
Oversee overall curricular instruction, assessment, and student progress in coordination with Special Education (Student Support), ESL, GT and other program staff on campus.
Oversee daily school activities, including class schedules and teacher assignments; supervise campus facility and services. Schedule campus activities calendar.
Assist in the preparation of the campus budget by actively tracking campus needs and enrollment.
Maintain all paper and electronic records per federal and state regulations and district policies.
Maintain all certifications and meet professional development requirements for Governance report.
Work for student advancement in curriculum and co-curricular areas through professional development, data disaggregation, support of all staff (especially new teachers), and scheduling.
Orchestrate, encourage, and strengthen the professional learning community of the campus.
Assist District by serving in committees. Work to acquire or maintain accreditation and prepare for staff development.
Arrange and carry out safety inspections and safety drill practices; participate in safety planning as needed.
Make recommendations regarding instructional resources to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals. Be actively involved in the selection and delivery of curriculum and instruction in line with District guidance and direction.
Ensure school rules are uniformly observed, and student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
Plan and implement programs to develop students' academic plans and career awareness.
Support and guide the parent organization (PSC) to establish yearly fundraising goals and student/parent activities.
Do BOY, MOY, and EOY T-PESS evaluations with guidance from the District Administration and always strive for continuous improvement.
Do regular (weekly) 10-15-minute classroom walkthroughs with timely feedback to teachers.
Meet weekly with campus leaders to discuss student progress and data disaggregation.
Meet regularly with subject/grade level PLCs for instruction planning and tracking measurable student growth.
Ensure teacher lesson plans align with TEKS and are submitted on time each week.
Observe, supervise, and support all teachers with an emphasis on new teachers.
Oversee student enrollment and retention as well as grade placement and attendance committees.
Attend all POWOW''s.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise and evaluate the performance of staff assigned to campus including assistant principal(s), teacher(s), counselor(s), aide(s), and clerical support staff.
Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Travel to district meetings as required; travel to statewide conferences as needed. Frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
