DEFINITION:

Under general supervision of school principal, helps students resolve such problems as may interfere with theirreceiving the greatest benefit from the schools educational opportunities. Assists the principal in the areas ofleadership, supervision, and administration to promote the educational development of each student, with anemphasis on supporting English Language Learners, Disadvantaged/Homeless/Foster Youth, and children with SpecialNeeds.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists in the interpretation of school and district programs, policies, and procedures to support students, with a primary focus on supporting English Language Learners, Disadvantaged/Homeless/Foster Youth, and children with Special Needs, parents, staff, and community.
  • Assumes responsibility for ensuring student attendance rates are maintained at a high level.
  • Attends and participates in student, staff, and school-related community functions.
  • Interacts with parent, student, and staff concerns in a sensitive, timely manner.
  • Keeps the site principal informed of the schools activities and challenges.
  • Makes recommendations for appropriate revisions of policies and rules affecting the students life in the school.
  • Supports unduplicated students in areas such curriculum, social and emotional supports, trauma informed practices, attendance, and collaborates with appropriate school and community resources.
  • Participates in Student Success Team activities at his/her assigned site, especially supporting English Language Learners, Disadvantaged/Homeless/Foster Youth, and children with Special Needs.
  • Returns phone calls from parents/guardians.
  • Shares with the principal the responsibility for protecting the health and welfare of students.
  • Works with community and government agencies on challenges relating to drug abuse and truancy from school.
  • Serve as the Principal in the absence of the Principal; serve as administrative designee at Alternative Program Team meetings.
  • Assist staff with the implementation of District-adopted courses of study and instructional strategies. Facilitate staff development program; monitor progress report forms and timelines.
  • Assists in assessing curriculum needs, planning of instructional strategies, implementing and monitoring of instructional programs;
  • Assists in directing and evaluating performance of certificated and classified staff as delegated;
  • Relates to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy;
  • Assists in the total campus supervision of students;
  • Motivates employee performance and enhances morale;
  • Maintains a commitment to ongoing growth in self and others, supporting and participating in District and site professional growth programs;
  • Assists in implementation and monitoring of special programs;
  • Assists with emergency situations in cooperation with staff and public safety agencies;
  • Participates in a wide range of school activities at the direction of the Principal;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Participates in district level activities as assigned by the superintendent.
  • Serves as the principal-designee when so designated by the principal or superintendent.
  • Attends and participates in student, staff, and school related community functions both within the district and at other schools which our students are engaged in events.
  • Ensures proper maintenance and control of site based and student funds.

QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of:

  • State of California laws pertaining to school attendance and truancy
  • District policies and procedures related to the enforcement of district rules and regulations pertaining to student behavior and conduct on campus.
  • Approved techniques and methods of controlling and motivating students.
  • Facility maintenance and custodial supervision.
  • Behavior patterns of students, and adults.
  • Principles of public relations and human development.
  • Special education and mandates.
  • Safety rules and regulations for this position.
  • Evaluation and supervision methods of teachers and staff.

Ability to:

  • Assist in developing and implementing a school vision.
  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Facilitate participatory decision-making.
  • Establish and maintain effective and continual internal communication with staff members, district and community leaders, and others contacted in the performance of required duties.
  • Investigate issues, which relate to school climate and safety.
  • Handle all matters in a tactful, courteous, and confidential manner so as to maintain and/or establish good public relations.
  • Learn and implement Board Policies, Administrative Regulations, and district and school procedures.
  • Make accurate and timely decisions.
  • Present and maintain a pleasant appearance and demeanor.
  • Work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Conduct workshops as appropriate.

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Bilingual (Spanish) proficiency desired.
  • Three or more years experience with Effective Teaching/Clinical Supervision desired.
  • Masters Degree or higher from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid California Teaching Credential or PPS Credential
  • A work history demonstrating reliability and a good attendance record.
  • California Administrative Services Credential
