Galt Joint Union High School District Job Description JOB TITLE: High School Assistant Principal DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the Principal, assists the Principal in organizing and administering a program which will provide an atmosphere conducive to the total development of the student. Participates in maintaining a positive public image for the school. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (includes but not limited to): As assessed by the supervisor, the outcomes of the Assistant Principal's job performance will include the following: 1. Effectively assumes the duties and responsibilities in the absence of the Principal. 2. Directs, coordinates and evaluates the general program evaluation of the school. 3. Appropriately assists in the coordination of department chairpersons and faculty meetings. 4. Effectively coordinates state, federal and district reports for timely completion and review with appropriate District personnel. 5. Provides appropriate assistance in assessing the financial needs and the budget planning for the schools. Develop and review budgets for special projects/grants with the Principal and with Business Services. 6. Provides effective direction for the research and development, application preparation and submission, fiscal reporting and evaluation of specially funded projects. 7. Provides leadership as a school/district liaison with subject area department chairs. 8. Effectively implements and coordinates routine activities including, but not limited to, the following: assignment of substitutes, campus/co-curricular supervision, and conduct of school safety programs. 9. Provides effective assistance in recruiting and recommending personnel, including placement of instructors in staffing assignments. 10. Effectively coordinates use of school facilities by both inside and outside agencies. 11. Provides assistance to the Principal by effective supervision/evaluation of certificated and classified employees including classroom observations and written evaluations. 12. Provides recommendations to the Principal on the master schedule and the plan for registering and scheduling of the students. 13. Effectively facilitates and monitors, in accordance with District and school goals, curriculum development, implementation, evaluation, and revision as well as the development of courses of study. 14. Effectively administers the student services program. 15. Effectively administers the total co-curricular program. 16. Effectively resolves problems involving students, parents, and staff at the school level. 17. Effectively administers the testing program to provide reliable evaluative and diagnostic data. 18. Effectively coordinates the custodial function and administration of the general operational aspects of the school. 19. Provides appropriate assistance in administering and managing the classified and certificated contracts. 20. Effectively supervises and coordinates the Special Education program at the school with the District program. 21. Establishes annual objectives deemed appropriate by the Principal. Makes active and consistent efforts to maintain or improve the external and internal image of the district and school/division. 24. Effectively directs and coordinates the program of student control and discipline. 25. Other duties assigned by the supervisor. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training, and Experience: Valid Administration Credential required, or enrolled in a program leading to an Administrative Credential M.A. or M.S. required Three successful years as a teacher, (secondary level desirable) Service in a variety of administrative capacities at the secondary school level desirable Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance California Drivers License and evidence of insurability Knowledge of: ? Secondary School Programs Skill and Ability to: Demonstrate proper social capability to relate effectively with staff, students and community Demonstrate ability to work with a wide variety of community groups and organizations JOB PROFILE: 212 days/year SALARY: Administrative Salary Schedule Proof of Satisfactory Health: Physical examination by school-designated physician upon original employment may be required. Testing for tuberculosis (skin test or chest x-ray) is required upon employment and every four years thereafter. Testing: Applicants for this position may be tested for appropriate skills prior to employment. Board Approval Date: July 13, 2004
