EMPLOYMENT STATUS:
Regular, full time

FLSA STATUS:
Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:
Assist the Principal with the administration, instructional leadership and daily operation of the high school, and perform the duties of Principal when assigned to do so.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Develop positive, consistent discipline systems and assist in maintaining discipline. Keep discipline records current and organized, and communicate clearly with parents.
  • Monitor student attendance, and work cooperatively with parents, staff, agency personnel and the attendance officer, to maintain an exemplary level of student attendance.
  • Work closely with the Transportation Director and bus drivers to promote consistent, positive student conduct.
  • Conduct safety drills according to district policies and procedures.
  • Attend after school and evening events as assigned.
  • Assist with the preparation of the master schedule and student schedules.
  • Assist with the supervision and evaluation of the high school certified personnel.
  • Supervise and evaluate some classified employees. Oversee the activities of all classified personnel working in the building.
  • Assist with the development of policies and procedures for the operation of the school; for example, the student handbook.
  • Develop/maintain special projects as directed.
  • Assist with the development of the building budget, particularly in the areas of furniture and equipment purchases and permanent improvement projects.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of school events and activities, and the use of the facility by outside groups (rentals).
  • Inspect the building and grounds, and make recommendations for maintenance and custodial work.
  • Develop and monitor a system for the use and care of ECHS property.
  • Establish and maintain regular, positive communication with the public, parents and staff. Use sound judgment, tact and diplomacy, and protect the confidentiality of information that is not public domain.
  • Engage in continuous professional growth, including attending training sessions as assigned, and complete a professional development plan according to procedures adopted by the school district.
  • Serve as a role model for students and staff in the practice of ethical principles, responsible behavior and democratic values.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop positive relationships with personnel in community agencies; for example, Children's Services, Mental Health agencies and the Juvenile Court.
  • Observe all safety and health regulations of the school district.
  • Maintain an appropriate personal appearance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the ECHS Principal or Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Ohio principal's certificate/license.
  • Successful middle school or high school teaching experience.
  • Administrative experience preferred.
  • Alternative to the above qualifications as Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to maintain a positive relationship with high school students.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with building and district staff, parents, agency personnel and community members.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Effective active listening skills.
  • Well developed organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Sound judgment and a sense of humor.
  • Team building skills.
  • Knowledge of Ohio school law.
  • Knowledge of educational administration.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
  • Telephone and fax machine.
  • Computer/printer.
  • Public address system.
  • Two-way radio.
  • Various office machines and educational equipment; for example, copiers and DVD players.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Potential exposure to blood or other bodily fluids and tissue.
  • Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather; that is, being prepared to come to school on all scheduled days, including calamity days.
  • Frequent interaction with unruly children.
  • Occasional interaction with angry or distraught adults.
  • Occasional travel to extracurricular activities.
  • Frequent weekend/evening work.
  • Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read.
  • Occasional requirement to lift, carry, push and pull various items; for example, books and supplies, up to a maximum of 25 lbs.
