GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Branch Director, the Middle School Program Director will be directly responsible for the management and growth of the Middle School After School Program along with additional programming throughout the year targeted to middle school aged youth. This position will be responsible for operations, staff, budget, fundraising in accordance with all YMCA policies and procedures. A 40-hour work week will be necessary to accomplish the assigned responsibilities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Staff Development:

1. Recruiting, hiring, training, developing, scheduling and managing a high performing staff focused on providing exceptional service and instruction and work well as a team.

2. Developing strategies to provide support and motivation to staff for the achievement of goals and retention.

Ensure adequate staffing during program hours.

4. Reviewing and evaluating staff performance.

5. Responsible for documenting staff meetings/development and trainings.

6. Ensuring staff certification records are current.

Program Operations:

1. Effectively communicating the mission, vision and values of the Wichita YMCA.

2. Ensuring all programs comply with YMCA standards and methods of operation.

3. Integrating youth engagement strategies into all programs to ensure positive participation recruitment and retention for highest level of program participation.

4. Monitoring and evaluating delivery and effectiveness of programs and continually strive to attain the highest possible level of program quality.

5. Keeping accurate records of attendance and statistics for all programs.

6. Being visible to staff and participants.

7. Responding to all inquiries and concerns within 24 hours.

8. Communicating program information, changes and needs in a timely manner to supervisor and branch staff.

Fiscal Management:

1. Develop, manage and meet or exceed budget targets.

2. Producing effective and efficient staff schedules within set payroll budget parameters.

3. Provide historical and current program information for grant or other fiscal opportunities.

4. Maintaining all current grant tracking information, reporting and hitting all due dates.

5. Researching additional grant opportunities.

Strong Community Campaign:

1. Providing leadership for assigned aspects of Strong Community Campaign, special events and other fund development to ensure fundraising goals are met.

2. Providing support and leadership for impact tours.

Facilities Development:

1. Maintaining complete familiarity with all risk management procedures and policies.

2. Maintaining program area and equipment/supplies in an orderly, clean and safe condition; reporting any irregularities to branch director.

3. Keeping an up-to-date inventory on all equipment, materials and supplies.

Other:

1. Serving as a member of the branch management team performing specific duties which support the overall success of branch operations.

2. Communicating information promptly to all branch leadership and departmental staff.

3. Attending applicable training and conferences to further professional development.

All other duties as assigned.

EFFECT ON END RESULT: Providing leadership and guidance to ensure the achievement of goals and objectives of the Middle School After School Program along with all other programs focused on serving middle school aged youth with high levels of participation, satisfaction and retention of participants and staff.

Qualifications

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 25
  • One year management experience required to include hiring, firing, reviewing, and budget
  • Relevant experience working with middle school youth
  • Bachelors degree in related field preferred

Job Requirements:

  • Commitment to the YMCA mission, vision and values
  • Must attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire
  • Complete CPR/AED, First Aid, O2, and Listen First in accordance with Conditions of Employment
  • Understand and abide-by all policies and procedures as set forth by the association
  • Work a schedule that reflects the needs of the branch and program; including evenings and weekends
Essential Functions

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  • Must be able to routinely perform the following physical activities as dictated by program; run, jump climb, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand, walk and perform moderate physical activity for extended periods of time, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity
  • Must be able to lead and coach teams and individuals and have the ability to communicate effectively; both orally and in writing
  • Must possess mental alertness, problem solving and task management skills; ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment
  • Must demonstrate a high level of maturity, patience, dependability, sound judgment and the desire to work with all ages
  • Must exhibit initiative in the absence of supervision
  • Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner
  • Must work collaboratively as a team member as well as independently and lead by assigned goals, duties and deadlines
  • Must present a neat and professional appearance at all times
