Bard College is seeking a visionary and creative Assistant Dean of Students and Director to lead its Educational Opportunity Programs . The Assistant Dean is responsible for supporting the Dean of Students in the ongoing implementation, creation and evaluation of programming and support structures geared toward helping the undergraduate students thrive during their time at Bard College.
Specifically, Bard College is a founding member of the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) . HEOP is central to the college?s ongoing commitment to ensuring that a Bard education remains accessible, regardless of socioeconomic status. Over the last ten years, the educational opportunity programs have grown to support the development and academic success of students coming to Bard on a variety of equity-related scholarships such as the Early College Opportunity Scholarship and the Posse Scholarship (where Bard recruits from the Atlanta & Puerto Rico programs). The successful candidate will provide innovative leadership and a strategic vision for the continued development of the access and equity programs at the College.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of undergraduate students and act as a primary contact for faculty, staff and students; address personal /social / academic concerns or questions; manage individual student cases to provide support and advocacy for students with campus offices and resources
- Lead the recruitment and admission of new students eligible for the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) scholarship, Early College Opportunity (ECO) Program scholarship and the Bard Opportunity Program (BOP) scholarship
- Lead the planning and implementation of a pre-matriculation summer orientation program
- Supervise professional staff in the Educational Opportunity Program office
- Work individually with students in an advisory capacity
- Consult and collaborate with appropriate members of the College community to develop academic and other support services for students
- Oversee program functions, budgets, and reports for the HEOP New York State Program as well as the Posse Foundation
- Develop a strategic vision for supporting Pell-eligible students and related socio-economic inclusion activities at the College
- This position requires the ability and willingness to periodically work non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends
- Experience advising students and working with faculty to develop and provide support services
- Master?s degree in education, counseling or related field
- A minimum of 3 years related college or university experience
- Significant experience supervising professional staff
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, written, and oral communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Experience advising first-generation students in a private liberal arts and sciences institution
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a range of individuals across the College; proven ability to provide training to students, faculty, and staff
- Knowledge of and interest in small, liberal arts colleges
- Ability to build relationships with and support a student body that is broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, gender identity, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion
- Experience with overseeing and managing budgets
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience preparing reports to state agencies
- Teaching academic support workshops

Compensation: $75,000 - $80,000
This salary range reflects the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for the position at the time of the job posting. Salary decisions are dependent on several factors including but not limited to market and organizational considerations, experience, and qualifications of a selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
