Position Description

POSITION TITLE: Indian Trail Principal

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • State of Ohio Principal’s License
  • Master’s Degree in educational administration
  • Two years’ experience in instructional leadership roles, or other experience deemed appropriate

  • Previous administrative experience preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Instructional Leadership

  1. Ensure implementation of state and district curricula and assessments aligned with state standards, including college and career readiness standards.
  2. Monitor and ensure high-quality instructional practices among teachers and staff that improve student performance.
  3. Ensure that effective instruction maximizes growth of individual students and student groups, supports equity, and eliminates the achievement gap.
  4. Regularly conduct classroom walk-throughs to monitor progress of district-level initiatives and use findings to take appropriate actions.

Human Capital

  1. Recruit, select, place, mentor, and retain diverse and highly effective teachers and staff.
  2. Provide clear expectations of staff performance and conduct evaluations of all staff.
  3. Coach and develop teachers and staff by giving individual feedback and aligned professional development opportunities.
  4. Make recommendations to superintendent on termination, suspension, or nonrenewal of employees assigned to campus.

Executive Leadership

  1. Build common vision for school improvement with staff. Direct planning activities and put programs in place with staff to ensure attainment of school’s mission.
  2. Focus on solutions-oriented environment where challenges become opportunities; promote support of school and community through continuous improvement.
  3. Proactively seek and act on feedback, reflect on personal growth areas, seek development opportunities, and change practice in ways that improve student outcomes.
  4. Communicate with all audiences and develop productive relationships.
  5. Participate on district level committees as assigned.

School Culture

  1. Develop, implement, and sustain a shared vision of high expectations for all students and staff. Recognize excellence and achievement.
  2. Establish, reinforce, and monitor clear expectations for adult, staff, and student conduct, including social and emotional supports. Recognize excellence and achievement.
  3. Create a safe school environment that ensures the social, emotional, and physical well-being of staff and students. Ensure the effective and quick resolution of conflicts.
  4. Apply a variety of MTSS techniques to meet the behavioral and academic needs of individual students. (Examples: PBIS and Restorative Discipline principles)
  5. Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in decision-making process.
  6. Provide for two-way communication with superintendent, staff, students, parents, and community.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Strategic Operations

1. Outline and track clear goals, targets, and strategies aligned to a school vision that continuously improves teacher

effectiveness and student outcomes.

2. Implement daily schedules and a yearlong plan for regular data-driven instruction cycles, participate in the

development of the master schedule, give student access to diverse and rigorous instructional programs, and build in

time for professional development.

3. Align resources with the needs of the school and effectively monitor the impact of these resources on school goals.

4. Collaborate with district staff to implement district policies and advocate for the needs of district students and staff.

Administrative and Fiscal/Facilities Management

  1. Comply with district policies, state, federal laws, and regulations affecting the schools.
  2. Develop building budgets based on documented program needs, estimated enrollment, personnel, and other fiscal needs. Keep programs within budget limits. Maintain fiscal control. Accurately report fiscal information.
  3. Complete all Federal, State or local reports as assigned.
  4. Direct and manage multiple activity funds.

Student Management

  1. Work with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system driven by the principles of PBIS that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
  2. Utilize the building PBIS Committee to effectively monitor student discipline data and adjust discipline management practices accordingly.
  3. Employ academic and behavioral MTTS processes effectively.
  4. Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

Professional Growth and Development

  1. Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
  2. Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior. Serve as a role model for all campus staff.
  3. Develop and utilize professional skills appropriate to support district initiatives.
  4. Ensure assistant principals are equipped and effective as instructional leader.

School or Community Relations

  1. Articulate the school’s mission to community and solicit its support in realizing mission.
  2. Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
  3. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

Additional Working Conditions

  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
  • Occasional interaction among unruly children.
    Occasional operation of a vehicle in normal and/or inclement weather conditions.
