Primary Purpose:
To assess, diagnose, and provide therapy for students with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders in both English and Spanish. The Bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist will support students' communication needs and academic success while ensuring compliance with IDEA and Texas Education Agency (TEA) regulations.
Qualifications:
Education / Certification
- Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
- Valid Texas licensure by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from ASHA preferred
- Bilingual certification or native/near-native fluency in Spanish (required)
Special Knowledge / Skills:
- Proficiency in conducting evaluations and delivering therapy in both English and Spanish
- Knowledge of bilingual language development and disorders
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience with documentation platforms such as eSped (preferred)
Experience:
- Experience in school-based or pediatric setting preferred
- Experience with culturally and linguistically diverse populations
- Familiarity with IDEA, ARD processes, and educational settings
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conduct comprehensive speech and language evaluations for English and Spanish-speaking students.
- Participate in ARD meetings and provide recommendations based on assessment results.
- Develop and implement individualized speech-language therapy plans aligned with students' IEP goals.
- Deliver therapy services in English and Spanish, as appropriate, based on students' linguistic needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation of therapy sessions, progress notes, and Medicaid billing (SHARS), as applicable.
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and parents to support students' communication and educational goals.
- Assist in the identification of students with communication disorders as part of the evaluation or Child Find process.
- Provide training to staff and parents regarding communication development and strategies for supporting bilingual students.
- Maintain compliance with all state and federal requirements, including timelines, service minutes, and paperwork accuracy.
- Travel to assigned campuses within the district, as needed.
- May direct and monitor the work of speech therapy assistant(s) or speech aide(s).
