Job Description:
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Syracuse University invites applications for a temporary, 40-hour per week position as a clinical supervisor in the Gebbie Clinic. This role may be filled by one full-time SLP or multiple part-time SLPs whose combined hours total 40 hours per week. Responsibilities include on-site supervision and training of graduate students in Speech-Language Pathology during assessment and treatment of clients across the lifespan. The position also involves providing some direct clinical services and participating in clinical faculty meetings. Some limited evening hours are required.
Education and Experience:
Candidate must have a a masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology, hold ASHA certification, and be currently licensed to practice in New York State. In order to meet ASHA requirements for supervision, candidates must also have a minimum of 9 months full-time clinical experience as an SLP after being awarded the ASHA certification and have completed or be willing to complete required supervisor continuing education by the starting date.
Skills and Knowledge:

  • Candidate must have expert knowledge of and experience in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care of a variety of clients, ages, and disorders.
  • Experience working with children and adults in the areas of speech sound disorder, language, and voice is preferred, but individuals with any area of specialization are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidate must have experience working with a culturally diverse population.
  • Candidate must have excellent communication skills and be able to collaborate well with the SLP team and faculty and staff of the Gebbie Clinic and the department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise SLP graduate students in diagnostic and therapeutic services in the Gebbie Speech-Language Clinic. This includes pre-staff planning meetings, reviewing and editing clinical documentation, providing direct supervision to graduate students in accordance with ASHA or Medicare supervision requirements, provision of feedback and student evaluation.
  • Provide limited direct diagnostic and therapeutic services to clients as assigned.
  • Attend appropriate clinical faculty/staff meetings and work collaboratively in department.
  • Engage in continuing education to stay current on best practices and fulfill and maintain state licensure and national certification.
