Reports to: Building Principals and Director of Student Services

Work Year: 2025-2026 School Year

Salary: Teacher’s Contract

Position Description

The speech language pathologist will address the needs of individuals with speech, voice or language disorders, and support the staff that is also responsible for these students in the area of communication. This person will work with students with and without IEPs, who have been identified as, or are suspected of having speech-language impairment, and those for whom speech and language services are deemed necessary. Collaboration among programs and buildings. This position could be housed at one or more school buildings, which could include preschool.

Education Requirements:

State of Connecticut licensure and certification (061);

ASHA CCC-SLP

Primary Responsibilities: 1. Assessment & Evaluation
  • Conduct comprehensive speech, language, voice, and fluency evaluations using standardized and informal assessment tools;
  • Participate in multidisciplinary evaluations, including those for initial eligibility, reevaluation, and early childhood screening;
  • Write clear, data-driven evaluation reports that align with CT State guidelines and best practices;
  • Interpret assessment results for parents, teachers, and other team members.

2. Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Development
  • Collaborate with IEP teams to determine eligibility for SLP services;
  • Develop individualized, measurable IEP goals based on assessment data and student needs;
  • Determine appropriate service delivery models (e.g., pull-out, push-in, consultative) based on student strengths and needs.

3. Service Delivery
  • Provide direct therapy to students with identified SLP needs in accordance with IEP goals;
  • Provide services across a range of settings, including self-contained classrooms, general education classrooms;
  • Support communication needs of students with complex needs, including augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).

4. Collaboration and Consultation
  • Collaborate regularly with classroom teachers, special education staff, interventionists, and related service providers;
  • Provide classroom strategies, accommodations, and supports to promote language development and generalization of skills;
  • Consult with families to share progress, home carryover strategies, and resources;

7. Professionalism and Continuing Education
  • Stay current on best practices in speech-language pathology, educational law, and language development;
  • Attend professional development workshops and in-service training;
  • Maintain licensure and certification requirements (state license, ASHA CCC-SLP, etc.).

  • Provide culturally and linguistically responsive services to diverse student populations;
  • Prioritize caseload to meet IEP timelines and student needs;
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with students, staff, and families;

  • Demonstrate flexibility in managing a dynamic caseload and adapting to changing student needs;
  • Promote inclusive practices and support student participation in the general education curriculum;
  • Use data to inform practice;
  • Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards as defined by ASHA and state regulations.
