Position Description This role involves serving 40-50 students across grades K-12, with particular focus on transition planning and life skills development. Working 35 hours per week, you'll have the opportunity to shape individualized educational experiences that prepare students for post-secondary success. The position emphasizes building strong partnerships with families and community resources.
Student Population Overview You'll work with students diagnosed with various disabilities including intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, multiple disabilities, and significant learning challenges. Many students require intensive support in academic areas, daily living skills, and social-emotional development. Your expertise will guide students toward greater independence and self-advocacy.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive IEPs with focus on post-secondary transition goals
- Provide specialized instruction in academic subjects and functional life skills
- Conduct ongoing assessments and adjust programming based on student progress
- Coordinate services with related service providers and community agencies
- Facilitate family engagement and provide educational support resources
- Implement evidence-based interventions and track effectiveness
- Participate in professional development and collaborative planning activities
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Special Education or related field
- Current New Mexico Special Education teaching license
- Minimum 2 years of school-based special education experience
- Knowledge of transition planning and community resources
- Strong advocacy skills and cultural competency
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
Virtual Instruction Competencies
- Proficiency with remote learning platforms and educational technology
- Ability to create engaging virtual learning experiences
- Experience with digital assessment tools and progress monitoring
- Knowledge of assistive technology applications
- Comfortable with online communication and file sharing systems
