Job Description


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders;
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association;
  • New Mexico License in Speech-Language Pathology from the New Mexico Speech Language Pathology and Audiology Board; and
  • New Mexico License issued by the PED Ancillary and Support Services.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of NM State and Federal laws governing Special Education and adherence to those laws;
  • Maintain professional confidentiality and work collaboratively with peers; and
  • Work with District personnel and the general public in a professional manner.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Organizes and conducts identification program, i.e., screening and student assessments;
  • Coordinates student's therapy/treatment schedules in coordination with teaching staff and other related service providers;
  • Refers to other related service providers and teachers if necessary;
  • Evaluates and interprets speech and language testing and makes recommendations to aid in the educational planning for students with service needs;
  • Provides direct and/or consultative services in an individual, small, or large group setting;
  • Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service activities provided by the District and/or other professional growth activities;
  • May serve as case manager for student who receive speech-language services as well as may participate in Student Assistant Teams (SAT) committee meetings;
  • May perform Response to Intervention (RtI) tasks as well as provide recommendations for RtI tasks;
  • Evaluates speech and language delays and disorders, including: selection, administration, and interpretation of appropriate evaluation materials and results;
  • Analyzes and interprets findings for use in diagnosis and recommendations as well as reports findings, both verbally and in writing, to appropriate personnel, student and parents;
  • Follows Federal, State and District guidelines and criteria for eligibility and service delivery;
  • Plans and implements the clinical program which includes but is not limited to the management of a caseload, developing therapy schedules for students, develops measurable goals, modifies educational materials, develops a rapport with the teachers to develop and facilitate Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and evaluating student progress;
  • Writes evaluation reports, progress reports, maintains records including Medicaid filing for eligible students;
  • Participates in intra-school planning and communications through attending monthly meetings of the District speech-language pathologists; and
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by Supervisor.

Work Hours:

Work hours are established in employment contract. Additional work hours may be required as scheduled by School Principal.
