As an Occupational Therapist in a school setting, you will work closely with students, teachers, and other school professionals to assess, plan, and implement therapeutic interventions for students with physical, sensory, and/or cognitive challenges. You will help students develop the skills necessary to engage in classroom activities, self-care tasks, and other school-related activities.
Responsibilities and Qualifications:- Valid state licensure as an Occupational Therapist.
- Knowledge of child development, school-based therapy interventions, and IEP processes.
- Conduct initial and ongoing assessments of students’ occupational therapy needs that include self-help, functional mobility, environmental adaptations/adaptive equipment, sensory processing and pre-vocational/vocational skills.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized therapy plans based on students' needs and goals.
- Consult with staff to provide early intervention services through the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) within the district schools.
- Provide direct therapy services to students both individually and in small groups.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and school staff to ensure effective service delivery and progress monitoring.
- Educate and support staff in implementing strategies to enhance students’ participation in the classroom environment.
- Document and maintain detailed records of student progress and therapy sessions and complete billing activities associated with Medicaid School-Based Services.
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of appropriate goals.
- Provide recommendations for assistive technology and adaptive equipment as needed.
- Participate in school-wide initiatives to promote student well-being and inclusion.
- Previous experience working with children, preferably in a school setting.
- Excellent communication, collaboration and organizational skills are valued.
- Ability to manage a caseload effectively and to work independently and as part of the multidisciplinary team.
- An understanding of the state and federal special education rules and regulations.
