Summary:
Watertown Public Schools seeks an outstanding school Occupational Therapist who will provide services to students with fine motor, visual motor/visual perception, and sensory motor skills, which will allow them to access the WPS curriculum and to participate in both school and community life to the greatest extent possible. The successful candidate will have a growth mindset and an educational philosophy of inclusion for students with disabilities.
Job Responsibilities:
- Occupational Therapists are to comply with state regulations concerning renewal of certifications and licenses.
- Develop, update, and adhere to both a daily and weekly schedule. Each school’s principal and the special education administration should be provided with a copy of that schedule.
- Comply with WPS rules, policies, and procedures as well as those of their assigned schools and Special Education and Student Services.
- Maintain records of prior planning or lessons and to keep therapy notes for each child and therapy session and to maintain accurate records of student attendance
- Provide ongoing consultation to teachers and staff
- Provide direct occupational therapy services
- Work with students inside general education classrooms and school spaces as well as in therapeutic pull-out sessions
- Conduct screenings as requested through the Student Intervention Team (SIT) processes and the IEP Team processes
- Conduct occupational therapy evaluations and write thorough evaluation reports including educationally relevant findings and recommendations
- Participate as needed in GET Teams and IEP Teams
- Provide trainings for teachers, staff, and parents regarding occupational therapy in the school setting
- Author relevant sections of IEPs and 504 plans
- Write quarterly progress reports
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications Required:
- Education: Master’s Degree
- Massachusetts License in Occupational Therapy
- Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment
