Speech and Language Pathologist Brehm Preparatory School is a small, fully-accredited, not-for-profit co-educational boarding school for students with learning differences. Since 1982, Brehm has been successfully teaching Junior High and High School students with language-based and complex learning disabilities to "learn how to learn." Our family-style atmosphere is uniquely designed to foster independence and responsibility. Position Overview : The Brehm Speech and Language Pathologist provides evaluation, assessment and therapy to students who demonstrate the need for specialized services in areas of speech, language, social communication, and cognitive skills. The Brehm SLP is equipped to conduct therapy in a variety of contexts with a focus on improving receptive and expressive communication abilities, building listening and auditory processing skills, facilitating growth in social-cognitive skills, strengthening cognitive and linguistic bases for literacy skills, and identifying and facilitating the use of metacognitive strategies that enable students to monitor their own executive and learning processes. Essential Responsibilities : Administer speech and language evaluations to middle and high school students. Evaluate and integrate information from available hearing and speech-language test results and family, educational, and psychological reports. Develop appropriate therapy goals, objectives, and treatment plans. Schedule students for therapy and be accountable for their attendance. Conduct therapy according to plan, to address stated goals and objectives. Track student therapy progress. Conduct informal assessments as needed. Report therapy progress to student's families in quarterly progress reports. Operate as a team member within the department; demonstrate a spirit of collegiality with fellow SLPs. Attend quarterly team meetings to share student information, progress, and strategies with members of students' team (instructors, and members of residential, therapeutic, and speech-language staff). Attend weekly all-staff meetings prepared to exchange pertinent student information with all staff members when such input may be helpful in facilitating student progress. In conjunction with the Coordinator of Educational Services, participate in the IEP process for district-placed students. Make recommendations for outside diagnostic or therapeutic services. Meet with students' families to discuss progress at appointed times during fall and spring Parent and Family Weekends. Prepare and present educational content for staff training. Fill the role of advisor as assigned by the Coordinator of Educational Services and as described in the Brehm Faculty Handbook. Perform other supervisory and monitoring duties of faculty when called upon to do so. Work and share expertise and responsibility in cooperation with all members of the Brehm staff in joint pursuit of Brehm's vision.
