Job Title: Assistant Director for Student Affairs Department: Law | Law Reserve

Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, the position of Assistant Director for Student Affairs will work closely with the Associate and Assistant Deans, the leadership of the Student Bar Association, faculty, staff, and students to ensure a supportive environment. The College supports professional development opportunities and conferences. This position also serves as a backup to the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs.

Required Experience / Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

  • Advanced degree in relevant field may be desirable.

  • 4 years of relevant experience required. 4-8 years of relevant experience preferred.

  • Ability to manage professional staff and student workers, work effectively with peers and external constituencies.

  • Understanding of legal and regulatory requirements surrounding higher education. Goal orientation with the ability and willingness to develop programming and methodologies for achieving goals and measuring them against appropriate metrics.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment and occasionally work evenings and weekends.

Desired Experience / Education:

  • Masters Level Degree in Higher Education Administration / Student Affairs or a Juris Doctor degree or another relevant discipline is strongly preferred;

  • 2-5 years of experience in student affairs is desirable.


Responsibilities:

Academic Program Support:

  • Design, implement, and manage policy efforts relating to student success and retention.

  • Oversee disability accommodations and services (in collaboration with the Universitys Office of Disability Services).

  • Provide support for community facing student-services tasks that have academic implications (such as co-curricular items which may include initiatives such as Street Law or spring break service-learning opportunities)

  • Provide support for dual degree program management including academic advising, information session planning, and liaising with other academic units.

  • Track and manage academic award determination and distributions.

  • Support professional identity formation accreditation requirements.

  • General academic advising, academic counseling, and crisis intervention support.

Student Services Support:

  • Collaborate and support the colleges student organizations.

  • Design, implement, and manage programs, trainings, and other educational opportunities in support of the colleges professional identity formation efforts, as well as efforts tied to items focused on community outreach, access to the law, dialogues across difference, and more.

  • Provide support for peer-to-peer student mentoring programs.

  • Oversee initiatives related to 1st-generation student support.

  • Serve as a touchpoint with legal stakeholders, including bar associations, courts, pro bono student opportunities and more.

  • Maintain a general awareness of basic needs resources available to students.

Programming Support:

  • Liaise with university-wide offices that focus on student-centered outcomes (including, but not limited to the Office of Student Life, Counseling and Consultation Services, Collegiate Recovery Community, Student Advocacy Center, etc.).

  • Prepare correspondence for external constituencies, social media, and website content.

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs in planning and implementing 1L orientation, student wellness initiatives, student organization leadership training, and community engagement.

  • Manage the scheduling and general logistics associated with information sessions related to exams, technology, end-of-year events, and more.

  • Support summer pipeline programs.

  • Assist with student handbook content management.

  • Creating content for student engagement and outreach (via newsletters, e-mail correspondence, digital media, social media, etc.)

  • Supervises student workers and manages the Law and Leadership Pipeline Program teachers.
Additional Information:

Salary is determined based on a combination of educational qualifications and the number of years of relevant experience.
