Occupational Therapist
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Occupational Therapist provides specialized assessments, consultation and direct services related to sensory-motor development and other identified development needs to students. The OT develops IEP goals and objectives and treatment plans. Assessments include oral motor, sensory processing, motor planning, visual integration, developmental function, activities of daily living, fine motor function, and range of motion, postural tone and others. Assistance includes individual therapy and classroom work. Consultation with teachers includes demonstrations of exercises and activities, monitoring of therapy, designing, developing and adjusting adaptive equipment for proper fit as needed, acting as a liaison for the District to physician and other agencies and providing consultation and support to parents.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To perform a job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Upon written referral, evaluates students using standardized tests, observations and/or clinically derived surveys in areas including sensory processing, perceptual-motor skills, motor coordination, self care, muscle strength and range of motion, postural reflexes, need for adaptive devices and prostheses and vocational skills; based on evaluation results, designs treatment programs aimed at improving the above areas of function, as they relate to a child's educational needs; develops goals and objectives as part of the child's IEP and provides direct therapy and/or consultation in order to meet these goals; provides in-service and training for instructional staff and parents; orders specialized equipment for pupil use as appropriate; makes adaptations for equipment and instructional/communication materials, as appropriate; serves as liaison with medical community and other service providers, such as California Children's' Service (CCS), as needed and complies with County/District Board Policies and Administrative Regulations. Performs other job-related duties as required.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Incorporated within one or more of the essential functions of this position are the following essential physical and mental requirements: Physical, mental and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position; manual dexterity sufficient to write, use telephone, business machines and make adaptations to equipment and operate specialized equipment designed for persons with physical disabilities; vision sufficient to read printed materials; hearing sufficient to conduct in person and telephone conversations; speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distance, on the telephone and addressing groups; physical agility to push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, to reach overhead, climb, run, hop, jump, balance and kneel; physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment (office, district, school or home site-to-site), drive an automobile, and respond to emergency situations; physical strength sufficient to lift 45 pounds; physical stamina sufficient to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time; mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions.

Experience in treatment and evaluation of children with developmental delays, neurological and orthopedic disabilities and perceptual disabilities, desirable
EVALUATION
Evaluated by the Special Projects/Special Education Director or designee.
