School Speech Language Pathologist - NC School for the Deaf (NCSD)

The North Carolina School for the Deaf is seeking applicants for a School Speech Language Pathologist.

This position is an 11-month, paid over 12-month position. Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.

Salary will be paid on the July 1, 2025, NC DPI Salary Schedule based on the selected candidate's related education and experience.

This position is responsible for a caseload of students in grades Pre-K-12+, with ASL and/or English communication needs that affect access to their social interaction, classroom participation, literacy, and learning. The school Speech Language Pathology (SLP) team organizes a program that addresses prevention, identification, assessment, and evaluation of communication skills and the development and targeting of related functional and academic Individual Education Plan (IEP) language and communication goals. Additionally, the SLP team may additionally ensure educational access by assessing the oral, pharyngeal, and sometimes esophageal phases of swallowing to identify difficulties and develop strategies for safer and more efficient eating and drinking at school.

Evidence-based interventions are scheduled, implementing a variety of service delivery models, including whole group and small group classroom intervention, consultation/collaboration, and individualized sessions, as appropriate to meet individual students' needs. The School Speech Language Pathologist collaborates with school and residential staff, teachers, and additional professional support services (psychology, social work, counseling, OT, PT, and VI) to design programming that ensures students attain their educational goals.

The North Carolina School for the Deaf (NCSD) is a specialty school for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, ages 3 (three) to 22 (twenty-two), with a catchment area encompassing the 46 westernmost counties in North Carolina. NCSD operates per the academic calendar, from August to May, with additional summer programming. Students are typically present on-campus Sunday afternoons through Friday afternoons. In general, support services and administration operate year-round.

Per G.S. 126-5 (c1) (37), this position is a 115 position and is Exempt from all provisions of NC General Statute Chapter 126 (State Human Resources Act) with the exception of Articles 6 and 7.*An ideal candidate will document all of the following on their application:

• Considerable knowledge of and skill in the application of professional speech and language pathology theory, techniques, principles, and procedures.
• Speech and language disorders, their classifications, causes, and manifestations, including the impact of a variety of medical, developmental, psychological, and sociological aspects of human development, particularly peculiar to the group of clients served.
• Ability to administer and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests to determine range, nature, and/or degree of communication skills.
• General knowledge of the school, its educational programs, and primary purpose/goals; and of available resources.
• Strong verbal and written skills and technology literacy are required.

• Master's degree or beyond in Speech Language with or eligible to receive an NC DPI School Speech-Language Pathologist license level of one of the following: M, S, AS, D, DS.
