Position: Speech Language Pathologist
Pay Rate: $52/hr
Duration: 42 weeks
Expected Shift: 7am-2:30pm, 37.5 hrs/week
In-Person or Hybrid
SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Speech Therapist is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and providing therapy to students with speech, language, voice, or fluency disorders. The therapist collaborates with school staff and families to support students in accessing and benefiting from the educational environment. Reports to the Director of Special Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide direct speech and language therapy to students as outlined in their IEPs.
Conduct evaluations and assessments of speech, language, and communication skills.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including evaluations, progress notes, and compliance records.
Develop individualized treatment plans and goals aligned with student needs and educational standards.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, including IEP meetings, as needed.
Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to support communication goals across environments.
Support classroom teachers by consulting on strategies to enhance student communication skills.
Conduct speech and language screenings as required.
Maintain records of referred, screened, and eligible students.
Provide in-service education and professional development to staff regarding speech-language topics.
Coordinate with external agencies and specialists when necessary.
Demonstrate proficiency in maintaining compliance with IDEA and state regulations.
Assist in developing and adjusting communication-related accommodations and modifications.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Speech Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders.
South Carolina certification in speech-language pathology or eligibility to obtain.
Valid state driver's license.
Minimum of clinical experience in school settings preferred.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as IEPs, educational guidelines, and medical records. Ability to write professional reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, families, and community partners.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts such as percentages, proportions, and measurements to educational and assessment data.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in educational and therapeutic contexts. Ability to evaluate and interpret assessment results and make appropriate recommendations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
Knowledge of speech and language development, communication disorders, and intervention strategies.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and ethical practice.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Proficiency in data collection and reporting software.
Ability to perform duties in alignment with district policies and IDEA regulations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with time constraints and handle multiple priorities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Duties are performed in a school environment with occasional district-wide travel required.
