Primary Purpose:

Provide physical therapy services to students with disabilities in accordance with the Individualized Education Program (IEP) to support their participation and success in the educational environment. Collaborate with educators, parents, and other specialists to develop strategies that enhance students' physical mobility and functional independence in the school setting.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy
  • Valid Texas license to practice Physical Therapy issued by the Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners
  • Current CPR certification (preferred)

Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working with children in a school-based or pediatric setting preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of motor development and the impact of physical impairments on learning
  • Ability to evaluate and implement appropriate interventions to address student needs
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Understanding of special education law and documentation requirements

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Evaluate students with physical impairments and delays to determine eligibility for services under IDEA
  • Develop and implement individualized physical therapy plans based on students' IEPs
  • Document evaluations, treatment plans, progress reports, and session notes in accordance with district and legal guidelines
  • Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings as needed
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other service providers to support student access and participation
  • Provide consultation and training to staff on mobility equipment, positioning, and adaptive strategies
  • Maintain therapy equipment and ensure a safe working environment for students
  • Adhere to ethical and professional standards in all practices
  • Travel to assigned campuses to deliver services

  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting, positioning, and transferring of students
  • Must be able to lift and move students and equipment (up to 50 pounds)
  • Possible exposure to bodily fluids
  • Travel between schools within the district is required
