Key Responsibilities:
The After School Counselor is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and enriching environment for students during after-school hours. The counselor will provide supervision, facilitate activities, and support students' social, emotional, and academic development. This role requires a dynamic individual with strong interpersonal skills and a passion for working with children and adolescents.
Minimum Qualifications:
Supervision and Safety:
Ensure the safety and well-being of all students under your care.
Supervise and monitor students during after-school activities, including sports, art, and free time.
Implement and enforce safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Behavior Management:
Foster a positive and respectful atmosphere within the program.
Address behavioral issues promptly and constructively, using established protocols.
Promote and model positive behavior and conflict resolution skills.
Communication and Collaboration:
Maintain open and effective communication with co-workers and Director.
Collaborate with other teachers and staff to ensure a cohesive and supportive program.
Administrative Duties:
- Assist with the setup and cleanup of program materials and spaces.
Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent; college coursework in education, child development, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with children or adolescents in a supervisory or educational role.
Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Background check and child protection clearance (as required by state or local regulations).
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and be on your feet for extended periods.
