Duties
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Provide health Assessments
- Obtain health and developmental histories as determined by collaborative teams
- Screen and evaluate vision, hearin g and other screenings required by ISBE
- Work with outside agencies if necessary to correct remediable defects
- Observe the child for development of health patterns in making nursing assessment and nursing diagnosis
- Develop and implement health plans
- Interpret the health status of students to parents and school staff
- Provide direct health service intervention
- Provide information and recommendations regarding students health concerns and plan of care
- Initiate referrals to parents, school personnel, and community health resources for identification, intervention, remediation, and follow-through
- Mental health issues
- Physical health issues
- Provide on-going health counseling with students, parents, school personnel and health agencies
- Utilize existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students
- Participate as health team specialist on the child education evaluation team to develop the Individual Education Plan (IEP) or applicable 504 Plan
- Plan and implement school health management protocols for children with special health needs
- Provide training to staff as necessary regarding student health issues such as asthma, diabetics, and allergies
- Provide training to students and support employees in proper hand washing techniques and other relevant health topics
- Provide and oversee Blood Borne Pathogen Training and compliance
- Evaluation of health status for students and personnel
- Examine physical, dental and eye examination reports for students and inform the administration of any unusual conditions and track non-compliance with state regulations
- Provide emergency service for injury and sudden illness
- Provide counseling for parents for treatment of lice
- Alert and advise administration of occurrence of communicable disease by students or employees following guidelines from Department of Public Health
- Maintain appropriate level of supplies for first-aid and emergency supplies
- Maintain reports as required by Department of Public Health, ISBE, and District
- Enter data into Pentamation system following required timelines
- Review data supplied in reports checking for accuracy
- Provide reports to administration as requested
- Maintain Medical Susceptibility and Student Alerts list
- Complete Data Reports for District 7, IDPH and ISBE Qualifications
- Appropriate Illinois Certification Type 73 - School Service Personnel School Nurse preferred
- Bachelor degree endorsed for school nursing
- Licensed as registered professional nurse in Illinois pursuant to the Nursing & Advanced Practice Nursing Act
- Completed an Illinois Program approved for the preparation of school nurses or a comparable approved program in another state or country or hold a comparable certificate issued by another state or country
- Completed school nurse internship with no less than 300 hours of experience that was supervised by certified school nurse
Certified School Nurse pay begins at $49,237
