School Nurse (2026-2027 School Year)

RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Provide health Assessments
2. Obtain health and developmental histories as determined by collaborative teams
3. Screen and evaluate vision, hearin g and other screenings required by ISBE
4. Work with outside agencies if necessary to correct remediable defects
5. Observe the child for development of health patterns in making nursing assessment and nursing diagnosis
1. Develop and implement health plans
2. Interpret the health status of students to parents and school staff
3. Provide direct health service intervention
4. Provide information and recommendations regarding students health concerns and plan of care
5. Initiate referrals to parents, school personnel, and community health resources for identification, intervention, remediation, and follow-through
6. Mental health issues
7. Physical health issues
8. Provide on-going health counseling with students, parents, school personnel and health agencies
9. Utilize existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students
1. Participate as health team specialist on the child education evaluation team to develop the Individual Education Plan (IEP) or applicable 504 Plan
1. Plan and implement school health management protocols for children with special health needs
2. Provide training to staff as necessary regarding student health issues such as asthma, diabetics, and allergies
3. Provide training to students and support employees in proper hand washing techniques and other relevant health topics
4. Provide and oversee Blood Borne Pathogen Training and compliance
1. Evaluation of health status for students and personnel
2. Examine physical, dental and eye examination reports for students and inform the administration of any unusual conditions and track non-compliance with state regulations
3. Provide emergency service for injury and sudden illness
4. Provide counseling for parents for treatment of lice
5. Alert and advise administration of occurrence of communicable disease by students or employees following guidelines from Department of Public Health
6. Maintain appropriate level of supplies for first-aid and emergency supplies
1. Maintain reports as required by Department of Public Health, ISBE, and District
2. Enter data into Pentamation system following required timelines
3. Review data supplied in reports checking for accuracy
4. Provide reports to administration as requested
5. Maintain Medical Susceptibility and Student Alerts list
6. Complete Data Reports for District 7, IDPH and ISBE
Qualifications
1. Appropriate Illinois Certification Type 73 - School Service Personnel School Nurse preferred
2. Bachelor degree endorsed for school nursing
3. Licensed as registered professional nurse in Illinois pursuant to the Nursing & Advanced Practice Nursing Act
4. Completed an Illinois Program approved for the preparation of school nurses or a comparable approved program in another state or country or hold a comparable certificate issued by another state or country
5. Completed school nurse internship with no less than 300 hours of experience that was supervised by certified school nurse
Salary/Benefits

Certified School Nurse pay begins at $49,237
