This is a full-time, 10-month, benefit-eligible specialist position. JOB SUMMARY : The School Nurse will be responsible for managing the health and wellness of students, administering medical care, and promoting a safe and healthy school environment. The ideal candidate will be passionate about children's health, well-being, and development, with strong communication and organizational skills. School nurses follow state regulations and guidelines to best address the health and safety of all students in Delaware public schools. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS : Must hold or be eligible for a School Nurse certification in the State of Delaware Must hold a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from a Regionally Accredited college or university Must hold an active, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse issued by the Delaware Board of Nursing or an active, unencumbered multi-state compact registered nurse license Certifications in CPR and AED use Possess strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Assess and treat students' injuries and illnesses in a timely and professional manner. Administer prescribed medications and manage health protocols for students with chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, allergies). Maintain up-to-date records of students' health status, treatments, and incidents. Provide first aid in emergency situations and take appropriate action when needed. Conduct routine health screenings, including vision, hearing, and orthopedic checks. Identify potential health issues and make recommendations for follow-up care with parents or healthcare professionals. Maintain and track immunization records for all students in compliance with state and district requirements. Promote healthy lifestyle choices by educating students on topics like nutrition, hygiene, and personal safety. Provide staff and parents with health-related information and resources. Support classroom health education programs in collaboration with teachers and administrators. Respond to medical emergencies or crises (e.g., allergies, seizures, injuries) with appropriate protocols. Implement and monitor emergency health plans for students with special medical needs, including anaphylaxis, asthma, and diabetes. Work closely with parents, teachers, and administrators to address student health concerns and follow up on treatments. Maintain clear communication with families regarding students' health, medical conditions, and treatments. Serve as a liaison between students, parents, and healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care. Maintain accurate health records for all students, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with health privacy laws. Monitor and comply with state health regulations, including reporting required immunizations and health assessments. Assist in maintaining emergency contact information and other necessary documentation for students. Ensure that school safety protocols are followed, including infection control and illness prevention. Collaborate with school staff to maintain a clean and safe school environment, including overseeing hygiene practices and protocols. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal. WORKING CONDITIONS AND EXPECTATIONS: This is a 10-month position based on a 188-day annual contract. Employees are expected to work 7.5 hours per day, consistent with the established school and district schedules. Responsibilities may include duties beyond instructional time, such as meetings, professional development, and school-related events. Employees are expected to maintain regular attendance, fulfill all assigned responsibilities, and demonstrate flexibility to meet the evolving needs of students, staff, and the district. This position may require additional workdays during the summer months beyond the standard school-year schedule.
