This position administers and plans physical therapy treatment and programs to students as assigned.? Evaluates students' functional status and plans an appropriate treatment program to achieve short- and long-range goals that are measurable and realistic. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This job has no supervisory responsibilities. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Administers and plans physical therapy treatment and programs to students as assigned. Evaluates students' functional status and plans an appropriate treatment program to achieve short- and long-range goals that are measurable and realistic. Determines eligibility of service and recommends direct or consultative delivery if needed. Plans, organizes, and implements individual physical therapy programs of service for students at the school level. Leads the students in individual, as well as groups, in activities to emphasize the development and strengthening of gross motor skills that are designed to achieve increased muscle strength, mobility, and endurance to facilitate the functioning and learning of students with disabilities. Recommends modifications and assists with addressing physical needs of students regarding technology (positioning, standing, etc.). Observes students' reactions and progress and keep records to be included in case histories. Attends in-service training. Attends regular physical therapy staff and team meetings to plan, evaluate, and assess treatment programs. Collaborates with teachers regarding IEPs and gross motor goals. Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy or related field. Two (2) years of experience; experience working with children preferred. Or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training that provides the required knowledge and abilities. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Working knowledge of the theories, practice methods, and techniques of physical therapy for psychosocial and physical rehabilitation. Knowledge of effective practice, clinical decision making, outcomes-based intervention, and their proper application in the educational environment. Knowledge of current legal mandates including: Federal and State law, compliance issues, confidentiality requirements, funding procedures, and requirements. Skill in selecting and providing a wide range of intervention strategies and monitoring their effectiveness. Skill in effective oral and written communication. Ability to plan, implement, administer, and coordinate a physical therapy program within a LEA. Ability to interpret physical therapy treatments to staff, relatives, patients, and others. Ability to assess physical and psychosocial developmental levels and evaluate the students' functional needs. Ability to plan, organize, lead, and instruct supportive staff in treatment sessions. Ability to develop a therapeutic relationship with students with disabilities. Ability to prepare reports and maintain records. Ability to operate and maintain a variety of therapeutic instruments and equipment related to physical therapy. Ability to analyze situations accurately and take effective action. Physical ability to execute job responsibilities that may include transferring and/or lifting students or equipment. CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Certification to practice in Georgia as evidenced by current licensure as a Physical Therapist by the Georgia State Board of Physical Therapy. Salary/Terms/Benefits: 1. 180 day work year; 8 hours per day 2. Salary: Grade 153A: Hourly (placement on salary schedule based on years or experience). Up to ten (10) years allowed. The stated salary range reflects the opportunity for pay over the course of the employee's tenure. The top pay is not a potential starting salary. 3.
