OUR DISTRICT
The Sultan School District is one of the larger geographical school districts in the Puget Sound area, consisting of approximately 325 square miles. Sultan School District has approximately 2,200 students enrolled K-12. Students are currently served by two elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and an alternative high school; and the Sno-Isle Skills Center, a cooperative vocational technical school.
OUR COMMUNITY
Located northeast of Seattle (seven miles east of Monroe) or about 20 minutes from the Woodinville area, Sultan is surrounded by a beautiful environmental setting. Our "backyard" is the scenic Skykomish River and Cascade Mountains. Sultan School District includes the community of Sultan, Startup, and Gold Bar. Students from Index attend Sultan High School.

SCOPE OF POSITION
The Assistant Principal is responsible for assisting the Principal in support of programs at the school or District level. Duties include: assisting in developing and monitoring goals; participating in the screening and selection of staff; supervising and monitoring the performance of certified staff; establishing and monitoring standards of conduct for students; participating in the establishment and monitoring of budget; facilitating the development of school schedules; designing staff development programs and content; designing, implementing, and coordinating various programs and professional growth opportunities; facilitating meetings; writing curriculum; and, working with teams to support the goals and mission of the District.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Provide leadership and management of the elementary, middle, or high school, treating all staff and students with respect and dignity.
- Serve as the assistant instructional leader and assistant operational manager of an elementary/middle/high school facility.
- Participate and engage in Professional Learning Communities (PLC).
- Plan, conduct, and maintain performance evaluations designed to ensure that site goals and objectives are achieved, and that all levels of staff adhere to site, district, state, and national educational standards and goals.
- Provide staff with meaningful feedback that assists teachers in deepening their knowledge of teaching and learning.
- Plan, develop, organize, and administer support systems which provide optimal educational opportunities for elementary school age students.
- Work closely with the staff and teacher leader teams in assessing each school's educational, behaviora,l and program needs.
- Provide and maintain a safe environment for students and staff that is free of harassment, intimidation and bullying.
- Assist in the development of short-term, mid-term, and long-range planning strategies for creating an optimal educational program.
- Supervise, direct, and coordinate the assignment of support personnel.
- Coordinate student and family assistance programs with social service and youth service agencies.
- Establishes effective working relationships with all staff, students and parents.
- Accountability of student discipline.
- Has working knowledge of positive behavior interventions, supports and restorative justice practices.
- Utilize inclusive practices to support all learners.
- Differentiate instruction (product, process, content, practice) to meet the needs of all learners.
- Provide evidence of personal continuous learning and growth in grade level/subject.
QUALIFICATIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ability to construct, implement, and monitor timelines meeting deadlines on projects and reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public, realizing that this position is a critical part of our community.
- Knowledge of principles, techniques, strategies, goals, and objectives of public education.
- Knowledge of philosophical, economic, and legal aspects of public education.
- Knowledge of modern, innovative, and creative curriculum and instructional trends regarding the elementary/middle/high school aged student.
- Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional program delivery strategies, program supervision, assessment, and evaluation.
- Knowledge of human relations strategies, conflict resolution strategies, and team building principles and techniques.
- Ability to manage, lead, and direct the functions and activities of an elementary/middle/high school facility.
- Ability to make effective instructional practices the top priority and demonstrate effective organizational and administrative leadership.
- Ability to talk with and relate to elementary/middle/high school students.
- Ability to set high expectations for staff and students and inspire people to work towards those expectations.
- Possess knowledge of current discipline laws and trends.
- Knowledge of AWSP Leadership Frameworks and the CEL 5D+ Instructional Frameworks.
- Have a working knowledge of the Teacher Principal Evaluation Process.
- Continued leadership towards full implementation of the common core standards.
- Successful involvement in a professional learning community.
- Lead Positive Behavior Intervention Systems in the building.
EDUCATION, LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, FORMAL TRAINING
- Masters degree or higher in educational administration or a closely related field.
- Valid Washington State Administrative Certificate.
- Minimum of 3 years successful elementary/middle/high school level teaching experience and previous experience in an administrative-like role preferred.
