Required Qualifications:

Valid Delaware Administrative Certification (or eligibility).

Minimum of 3a5 years of successful teaching experience.

Demonstrated leadership experience in a school setting.

Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices at the elementary level.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior administrative or instructional leadership experience (e.g., Dean, Assistant Principal, Instructional Coach).

Experience with PLCs, MTSS, and data-driven instruction.

Familiarity with DTGSS framework.

Experience supporting a culture of literacy in elementary education.

Position Overview: Sussex Academy seeks a dynamic and student-centered leader to serve as Elementary Dean. This position plays a critical role in advancing the school's vision to be a premier Ka12 school system in the state of Delaware by supporting a culture of academic excellence, strong character, and continuous improvement.

The Elementary Dean serves as both an instructional and operational leader, working in close collaboration with the Head of School, Chief Academic Officer, Chief of Student Services, and fellow administrators to ensure alignment across the Ka12 system. This role is essential in fostering a culture of literacy at the elementary level, strengthening professional collaboration through PLC structures, and supporting systems that promote student success and well-being.

Primary Responsibilities:

Leadership & School Culture

Provide leadership and direction for the elementary campus, ensuring alignment with Sussex Academy's mission, vision, core values, and strategic plan.

Foster a positive, inclusive, and student-centered culture focused on high expectations, respect, and continuous growth.

Support and reinforce a culture of literacy and foundational skill development across grades Ka5.

Promote a safe and supportive learning environment aligned with MTSS and student support systems.

Instructional Leadership

Support the implementation of a coherent system of curriculum, instruction, and assessment aligned to state standards and school priorities.

Collaborate with the Chief Academic Officer to support state testing, data analysis, and instructional improvement efforts.

Participate in and support Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and data team structures to strengthen instructional practice.

Conduct teacher observations and evaluations aligned to DTGSS the framework, providing actionable feedback to support professional growth.

Operations & Systems Management

Develop and manage the elementary master schedule, including bell schedules and daily operations.

Coordinate staffing coverage, including duty schedules and substitute management.

Maintain the elementary campus calendar and oversee the coordination of school-wide events and activities.

Plan and coordinate assemblies, concerts, field trips, and other programs in alignment with instructional priorities.

Student Support & Family Engagement

Monitor student attendance and implement protocols to support improved attendance and engagement.

Serve as a liaison between the school and families, fostering strong partnerships and open communication.

Lead parent and student conferences, including those involving complex or sensitive situations.

Collaboration & Systems Alignment

Partner with the Chief of Student Services to support safety and security protocols, transportation, student nutrition, counseling services, and student handbook implementation.

Collaborate across the Ka12 system to ensure alignment of practices, expectations, and student experiences.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School and/or designee
