Job Description

The School Psychologist supports the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success of all students through collaboration with educators, parents, and other professionals. This role includes assessment, consultation, intervention, and participation in special education processes. The School Psychologist ensures compliance with state and federal regulations and uses data-driven approaches to enhance student outcomes.

Essential Duties

Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations to determine eligibility for special education services under IDEA and Section 504.

Utilize a variety of assessment tools and techniques to measure intellectual functioning, academic achievement, adaptive behavior, social-emotional status, and behavioral functioning.

Interpret assessment data for parents, teachers, and other professionals in a clear and meaningful manner.

Write detailed psychological reports that include actionable recommendations.

Consult with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop and implement academic and behavioral interventions.

Participate in Problem-Solving Teams (PST), Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), and Response to Intervention (RTI) processes.

Serve as a member of IEP and 504 teams, providing expertise in interpreting evaluation results and recommending appropriate services.

Collaborate with outside agencies and community service providers as appropriate.

Develop and implement evidence-based mental health interventions for individuals and groups.

Provide crisis intervention and participate in threat/risk assessments as part of the district's crisis response team.

Offer counseling to students with identified needs as part of their educational programming.

Support initiatives that promote positive school climate, behavior supports, and social-emotional learning.

Maintain timely and accurate documentation in accordance with state and federal laws.

Ensure adherence to North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) guidelines and local district policies.

Participate in audits, reviews, and continuous improvement efforts.

Stay current with best practices in school psychology and changes in legislation.

Maintain certification/licensure and participate in ongoing professional development.

Adhere to ethical standards set forth by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) and North Carolina Board of Education.

Additional responsibilities as delegated

Education/Experience Requirements

Master's degree, Specialist-level (SSP), or Doctoral degree in School Psychology from an accredited program.

Valid North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) license in School Psychology.

Adherence to continuing education requirements.

Physical Requirements

Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards

Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards

Must be able to physically perform the basic operational functions of stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, hearing and repetitive motion

Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds
