Wayne-Westland Community Schools is located in the metropolitan Detroit area, between Ann Arbor and Detroit. Our staff provides the very best educational opportunities for approx. 10,000 students from Westland, Wayne, Canton, Livonia, Garden City, Dearborn Heights, Inkster, and Romulus. The Wayne-Westland Community School district is comprised of ten elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8), and two high schools (9-12). QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned

This position serves as the secretary to the Assistant Principal

Maintain calendar and schedule for supervisor

Maintains changes in the student data information system throughout the year

Maintains the student immunization records and updates shot records as needed

Responsible for collection and maintenance of all pupil accounting records including count

Assist with the preparation of the Curriculum Guide

Assist greeting and interviews office visitors and telephone callers

Assist with Graduation, Events and Activities

Assist with communication and paperwork related to student discipline

Maintain various records and files, including confidential data

Contact staff, students and parents as required

Assist other secretarial personnel as required

Regular and predictable attendance

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Must be eligible to work in the United States

High school diploma or equivalent

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Able to operate office equipment

Computer proficiency in Microsoft office, excel and Google Suite preferred

Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written

Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word required

Must be able to pass (or have passed) a District secretary test

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand or sit for long periods of time and walk. The employee is occasionally required to use hands and to bend or twist at the neck and back. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

The noise level in the work environment is consistent with a high school office environment and is usually moderate to loud and frequently busy. This position is frequently required to interact with staff, students and the public, which requires courtesy and discretion. A professional appearance and telephone manner is essential. The successful candidate will be able to multi task and be capable of making independent decisions using sound judgment. At times, the employee may be directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a 52 week position and the hourly rate is based on the MEA/WWESA collective bargaining agreement, for a Grade 6/52 week assignment. The daily hours are eight hours per day, two fifteen minute breaks, and a half hour unpaid lunch.
