JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Occupational Therapist
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Exceptional Education and Principal
JOB GOAL: To provide occupational therapy assessment and services as a related service to enhance a student's ability to benefit from and participate in his/her special education program
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Alabama license and National Board Certification in occupational therapy
Experience in the provision of public school occupational therapy services preferred
Experience in service to students with a variety of disabilities, including students with multi-disabilities
Knowledge of assistive technology and adaptive devices for students with special needs
Proficiency in oral and written communication skills
Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups
Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information
Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities
Assists and guides teachers in observing, identifying, and referring students with suspected and identified fine motor impairments
Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of fine motor, visual-motor integration, visual perception, visual analysis, and other areas related to occupational therapy
Administers evaluations, interprets evaluation findings, writes reports, and plans appropriate interventions utilizing the findings of the evaluations
Consults with school personnel to adjust classroom environments, tools, and curriculum to facilitate student performance and participation in school related activities
Participates in the development and implementation of IEPs
Collaborates with teachers and other school staff members to enable a student to meet IEP goals and objectives
Monitors student performance within the classroom
Provides direct services to students either within the classroom, in small groups, or in individual sessions
Assists individual students and/or teachers with the use of assistive technology/adaptive devices
Assists teachers in assessing equipment needs, monitoring, and making recommendations regarding instructional equipment
Adapts, designs, orders, and maintains equipment needed by students
Maintains and monitors records of students served by the instructional support team
Complies with local, state and federal regulations regarding special education records, reports, and services
Provides information, consultation, and assistance to classroom teachers
Maintains frequent and substantive communication with parents regarding students' needs, services, progress, and carryover of fine motor activities in the home
Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner
Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system
Cooperates in all teacher regulations and responsibilities in the local school
Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal and local laws
Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)
