NANTUCKET PUBLIC SCHOOLS Job Description Job Title: Special Education Reading Teacher (Grades 6-8) Location: Cyrus Peirce Middle School Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Student Services Position Type: Full-Time Position Overview: Cyrus Peirce Middle School seeks a dedicated and skilled Special Education Reading Teacher to support students in grades 6-8 who require specialized literacy instruction. The ideal candidate will provide evidence-based reading interventions, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and help students build the foundational literacy skills necessary for academic success and independence. Key Responsibilities: Deliver specialized reading instruction to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in alignment with district and state standards. Develop and implement lesson plans tailored to students' individual needs, focusing on reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and overall literacy skills. Use a variety of evidence-based instructional strategies, accommodations, and assistive technologies to support students with varying disabilities, including learning disabilities, developmental delays, and emotional/behavioral challenges. Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor progress toward IEP goals and maintain accurate records on student performance. Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports student engagement, independence, and success. Collaborate closely with general education teachers, special education staff, reading specialists, and other support personnel to align instructional strategies and resources. Communicate effectively with parents/guardians to provide updates on student progress, strengths, and areas for improvement.
