Job Title: Admissions Counselor Status: Exempt, Full-time 12 month schedule Wage Grade: 730 Reports To: Assistant Director of Admissions Overview: The Admissions Counselor supports Augustana College and the Admissions Office in the recruitment, admissions, and retention goals of the institution. As a member of the admissions team, works collaboratively with college faculty, administrators, and staff to effectively communicate the value of an Augustana education to prospective students and their families throughout the college search and selection process. Participates in a wide variety of recruitment activities both on and off campus. Job Duties: 1. Represents Augustana both on and off campus to prospective students, parents, school counselors and other organizations involved in the college search and selection process. 2. Coordinates personalized contacts, phone, and email outreach to assigned students and their families. Represents Augustana at selected college day/night programs and high school visits, and other off campus events. 3. Conducts student interviews and information sessions, on and off campus, to communicate distinctions of the college and assess interest and academic potential. 4. Reviews student applications and essays, makes admissions decisions, and communicates with students and parents about their admission status and scholarships. 5. Supports the Financial Assistance Office by providing accurate information about the options and resources for funding an education at the college. 6. Represents Augustana for speeches, speaking engagements, conferences and meetings as assigned and participates in informal recruitment activities such as sporting events, musical performances, plays and other activities. 7. Partners with coaches, faculty, fine arts departments, and other on-campus constituencies to align recruitment efforts. 8. Collaborates with the admissions staff on a variety of departmental projects (event planning, targeted outreach efforts, etc.) and actively participates in group meetings. 9. Uses Slate to create reports of recruitment activities and to track progress toward goals, as well as for strategic outreach planning. 10. Supervises a small group of student employees and provides work direction to support recruitment efforts. 11. Other duties as assigned. Skills & Abilities: * Excellent communication skills including written communication and public speaking skills. * Ability to develop rapport with a wide variety of student and family personalities. Strong cross-cultural and interpersonal communication skills are necessary. * Innovative spirit and problem solving skills. * Ability to build strong relationships across campus to support recruitment. * Commitment and ability to effectively communicate the value of the Augustana experience. * Ability to manage multiple tasks and work with limited supervision. * Good decision making and prioritization skills. * Ability to effectively supervise student staff. * Knowledge of using Google Workspace applications required. * Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. * Ability to represent the Augustana admissions team positively through a strong, student centered focus. * Spanish fluency is preferred. Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree required. 1-3 years' experience in private higher education or college counseling highly preferred. A demonstrated interest and/or experience in event planning and promotion is preferred. Additional Information: Pay and Benefits: This position is budgeted for $40,000 - $42,000 and offer a competitive benefits package designed to support the needs of employees. Travel Requirements: This position involves periodic travel, including 8-10 weeks of travel in the fall and up to 4 weeks of travel in the spring, as well as frequent weekend and evening work. Must have a current, valid driver's license. Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 40 pounds on a frequent basis. Ability to travel to remote locations and to load and transport admissions materials, displays and other equipment. Also required is the ability to listen, hear, speak, read, write, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and stand for intermittently long periods of time. Must possess finger and hand dexterity for using small tools and equipment. Must be able to use a computer to accomplish a variety of job tasks.
