Job Description: Assistant Principal - Elementary
Reports To: Principal
Qualifications:
- Master's degree from an accredited educational institution.
- Certification in Educational Leadership, School Principal or Professional School Principal, or Administration and Supervision.
- Minimum of five (5) years classroom teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of law, regulations and policies governing education in state and district.
- Knowledge of curriculum and instructional programs and best practices for appropriate level.
- Willingness to learn budgetary and supervisory responsibilities.

Performance Responsibilities:
- Assist Principal with administration and enforcement of Board policy, student discipline, instruction, management, safety, and security.
- Assist in the development, implementation and assessment of the instructional program for all students.
- Assist in the development of the master schedule for student/teacher assignment.
- Assist the Principal in appraisal of teachers' and other staff members' performance level.
- Assist in evaluating guidance services and practices.
- Assist in developing guidelines for student conduct and implement appropriate disciplinary procedures to assure a safe and appropriate learning/teaching environment.
- Oversee the administration of all testing programs at the school.
- Assist in developing and implementing a school-wide attendance plan.
- Assist the Principal in the selection of school personnel as requested.
- Promote safety procedures and practices.
- Supervise bus loading and unloading.
- Assist in overseeing food services at the school including free and reduced price lunch eligibility.
- Assist in the supervision of all extracurricular activities.
- Be proactive in recognizing and solving school concerns and problems.
- Anticipate problems as plans are developed.
- Use current research, performance data and feedback from teachers, parents, and students to make decisions on program change and /or modification.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the School's Improvement Plan.
- Utilize data effectively in decision-making.
- Assist in assessing staff development needs of school personnel.
- Assist in providing supervision and oversight for substitute teachers.
- Assist the Principal in maintaining appropriate inventory records for equipment, textbooks and materials.
- Coordinate facility maintenance and safety records.
- Assist in monitoring school budget as directed by the Principal.
- Assist the Principal in supervising and monitoring the accurate and timely completion of data collection and reporting requirements.
- Delegate responsibilities to appropriate staff members.
- Provide training opportunities and feedback to school personnel as assigned by the Principal.
- Promote staff development activities with focus on the needs of the staff.
- Be actively involved in programs for professional growth and development.
- Attend conferences, in-services and workshops to keep current in educational practices.
- Maintain and model high standards of professional conduct.
- Set high standards and goals for self and others.
- Use effective interpersonal skills to guide individuals and groups to task completion.

- Provide leadership and support for school and System goals and priorities.
- Assist Principal in establishing and implementing procedures to be used in event of school crises and provide leadership in event of such incidents.
- Decide how to meet students' needs as they arise.
- Deal with emergency situations such as facilities problems, student disciplinary incidents, and safety.
- Deal effectively and appropriately with abuse situations.
- Investigate student accidents and other incidents and take appropriate action.
- Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.

Alabama Reading Initiative (ARI) & Literacy Leadership:
Instructional Oversight: Lead the implementation of the Science of Reading and ensure high-quality Tier I initial instruction for all K-3 students.
SRIP Management: Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of Student Reading Improvement Plans (SRIPs) for all students identified with a reading deficiency.
Specialist Collaboration: Partner with the local Reading Specialist to analyze data, conduct student-centered coaching cycles, and plan literacy-focused professional development.
Compliance: Ensure all state-mandated literacy screening is conducted within the required windows and that parents are notified of results per the Alabama Literacy Act.
Office of Mathematics Improvement (OMI) & Numeracy Leadership:
Data-Driven Math Instruction: Utilize OMI resources to monitor the effectiveness of mathematics instruction and ensure alignment with evidence-based practices.
Numeracy Monitoring: Ensure mathematics data discussions are embedded into existing PLC and PST meetings to address student gaps in foundational numeracy.
Compliance: Oversee the organization and reporting for Summer Reading and Math Camps to ensure they meet state budget and instructional guidelines.
MTSS & Problem Solving Team (PST) Oversight:
Platform Mastery: Serve as the lead administrator for the PowerSchool Unified Insights platform, ensuring all MTSS interventions are documented accurately.
PST Leadership: Establish and lead a functional Problem Solving Team (PST) that meets regularly to review school-wide and individual student data.
Intervention Fidelity: Ensure that Tier II and Tier III interventions are evidence-based, implemented with fidelity, and that progress monitoring data is entered into Unified Insights in a timely manner.
Annual Close-out: Ensure all MTSS interventions are marked "completed" or extended at the end of each academic year within the digital platform.
Professional Development & Culture:
Growth & Training: Facilitate Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) focused on data analysis from Unified Insights to drive instructional changes.
Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate clearly with parents regarding the MTSS process, including how the school provides targeted support for students at-risk.
Physical Requirements:
- Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.
Terms of Employment:
- Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the System's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the System.

- Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
