NORTH BOLIVAR CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICT

JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Elementary School Counselor

QUALIFICATIONS:

Proper state certification

Such other qualifications as the Superintendent and Board may deem acceptable and appropriate

REPORTS TO: School Principal

JOB GOAL: To assist students with overcoming barriers and situations that impede learning

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Demonstration of Professionalism:

Utilizes correct oral and written communication

Adheres to the Ethical Standards of the American Counseling Association and the American School Counselor Association

Maintains confidentiality within ASCA Guidelines

Maintains positive atmosphere with students, teachers, and the community

Uses School Board policy manual and Mississippi Public School Accountability Standards

Follows Mississippi Educator Code of Ethics and district policies

Demonstrates punctuality and appropriate attendance

Demonstrates accuracy in record keeping and meeting deadlines

Serves as advisor and counselor to all students

Participates in professional development opportunities

Contributes to district events/projects

Performs other duties as assigned

Organization of the Counseling/Guidance Program:

Plans counseling activities for the school year

Demonstrates organization skills

Publishes and distributes calendar of events

Administration of Counseling/Guidance Program:

Provides time for counseling self-referred and at-risk students

Conducts interviews with newly enrolled students

Conducts follow-up of newly enrolled students

Plans and conducts group counseling activities

Schedules parent-teacher conferences as needed

Student Records:

Coordinates maintenance of student records

Assists with standardized testing

Reviews student progress each grading period

Maintains accurate enrollment records

Special Services:

Acts upon referrals from stakeholders

Assists with student referrals and support teams

Utilizes community resources

Assists families and teachers with resources

Assists with placement of students with special needs

Supports ELL students

Family, Home, School, and Other Support Services:

Works with families on student performance issues

Collaborates with staff regarding student progress and attendance

Follow-Up:

Conducts follow-up of students

Evaluates counseling program annually

Revises program periodically

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year established by NBCSD School Board

EVALUATION:

Performance evaluated according to Board policy
