Scope of Work: The Building Principal's primary responsibility is to serve as the instructional leader of the building(s) to which they are assigned. The Building Principal is responsible for driving the academic excellence of the educational program prescribed by the Governing Board and California state statutes, primarily through continuous staff development and the implementation of high-leverage instructional strategies.
Job Description:
A. Educational Leadership-Administration
The Building Principal is responsible for:
- Establishing a school-wide culture of high expectations and academic discipline to ensure the well-being of all pupils.
- Communicating and interpreting District instructional priorities and policies to all building personnel.
- Directing financial procedures and site budgets to ensure resources are strategically aligned with student achievement goals.
- Serving as the primary advocate for the schools instructional vision within the community.
- Facilitating streamlined communication between the school, families, and the District Office to support the learning environment.
- Ensuring the school campus and office operations function efficiently to support student learning.
- Serving as the Local Education Agency (LEA) representative during all Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings.
B. Education Leadership - Instructional Leadership
The Building Principal is responsible for:
- Leading the development, improvement, and implementation of District practices to directly enhance the instructional program.
- Driving continuous improvement across all content areas through targeted feedback cycles.
- Disaggregating student learning data with staff to design targeted interventions for all student groups.
- Translating professional development into classroom practice to measurably improve student achievement.
- Orchestrating all site efforts toward a singular focus on increasing academic growth and narrowing achievement gaps.
- Facilitating site directed time to support professional learning communities centered on instructional objectives.
- Evaluating and coordinating the professional growth of all staff through frequent, high-quality feedback and coaching.
- Collaborating with the Educational Services Department to refine and innovate the instructional program.
- Integrating student services and supports to remove barriers to academic success.
- Maintaining a welcoming, engaging, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
C. Skills and Ability
The Building Principal is responsible for:
- Facilitating groups in collaborative planning and instructional problem-solving.
Design professional learning opportunities based on staff needs. - Communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
- Fostering an equitable learning environment for diverse ethnic, racial, linguistic, and social backgrounds.
- Disaggregating and interpreting student learning data.
- Aligning site budgets with instructional priorities.
D. Requirements
- Masters Degree
- Administrative Credential
- Multiple/Single Subject Teaching Credential
- Five years of teaching experience
- Two years of administrative experience (Principal, Assistant Principal, or Administrative Intern).
