Participates in evaluative process, eligibility, placement, and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) team meetings. Develops IEP goals, lesson plans, and instructional materials that meet the district 's curriculum goals as well as the individual needs of each student. Evaluates student's learning/social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares reports relating to student's progress. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided, materials available and needs and capabilities of the child. Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and the parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of assigned students. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Cooperates and consults with general education classroom teachers and other staff members in planning instructional goals, objectives, modifications, and accommodations to be used with students in special education. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student's progress, areas of need, and program goals. Creates an effective learning environment conducive to small group and individual therapy sessions. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities. Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records. Abides by all district, state and federal laws, policies, and procedures, including timely completion of documentation. Maintains confidentiality. Attends and participates in faculty meetings and professional development activities, and serves on committees as required. Maintains appropriate emotional stability, physical health, personal appearance, and personality. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. Terms of Employment: Number of calendar days and compensation based on approved certified schedule and employee work calendars Evaluation: Evaluation by site principal and/or assistant principal in accordance with BOE Policy DNA Teacher Evaluation Physical Demands: Ability to routinely and continually bend, squat, stand, walk, or climb stairs. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds. Ability to do outside duties in inclement weather. Ability to support and stabilize students with physical disabilities.
