JOB SUMMARY :
The Assistant Principal of the Early Childhood Center serves as an instructional leader and administrator for students in grades Pre-K through 2. The Assistant Principal supports the Principal in creating and maintaining a safe, nurturing, and academically engaging learning environment that promotes the social, emotional, and academic growth of young learners. Responsibilities include supporting daily school operations, fostering positive relationships with students, staff, and families, supervising and evaluating staff, promoting effective instructional practices, and assisting with student support services and school improvement initiatives.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :
- Master's degree in Educational Leadership or successful completion of a leadership program
- Must hold or be eligible for State of Delaware Certification as a School Principal/Assistant Principal
- At least four (4) years of successful teaching or educator experience, preferably in an elementary school
- At least two (2) years of demonstrated and effective leadership experience in an educational environment
- Possess strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
- Ability to handle complex issues, multiple tasks, responsibilities and make decisions quickly and effectively.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Assist the Principal in the overall administration and operation of WECEC.
- Support the implementation of instructional programs aligned with district curriculum and state standards for grades Pre-K through 2.
- Promote a positive, safe, and inclusive school culture that supports the developmental needs of young children.
- Assist with the supervision, observation, and evaluation of certified and classified staff in accordance with district procedures.
- Support teachers through instructional coaching, professional development, and collaborative problem solving.
- Assist in the development and implementation of school improvement goals and initiatives.
- Coordinate and support student intervention processes, including MTSS and behavior support systems.
- Assist in monitoring student attendance, behavior, and academic progress.
- Support the implementation of developmentally appropriate discipline practices.
- Collaborate with counselors, specialists, special education staff, and related service providers to support student success.
- Assist with state testing coordination and other assessment-related responsibilities as appropriate for primary grades.
- Help coordinate school safety procedures, emergency drills, and crisis response protocols.
- Foster strong communication and partnerships with families and the community.
- Assist with student arrival, dismissal, transportation, cafeteria, and other operational duties.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and mentoring staff members.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation as required by district, state, and federal guidelines.
- Attend and participate in school events, meetings, and professional learning activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required background checks and clearances.
Compensation for the Assistant Principal role will be based on the candidate's educational background, professional qualifications, and prior administrative experience, in alignment with district salary guidelines.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND EXPECTATIONS:
This is a 12-month position based on a full-year administrative contract. The Assistant Principal is expected to work a minimum of 8 hours per day, consistent with district expectations for administrative staff, with additional time as necessary to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the role. Duties extend beyond the traditional school day and include evening and weekend commitments such as school events, extracurricular activities, meetings, and professional development.
The Assistant Principal is expected to maintain consistent and reliable attendance, demonstrate strong leadership and professionalism, and effectively manage a wide range of school operations. Responsibilities continue throughout the summer months and may include oversight of summer programs, planning for the upcoming school year, staff supervision, and other administrative duties as assigned. Flexibility is essential to meet the evolving needs of students, staff, and the district.
