Principal

Bessemer City School System

Title: Principal

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in educational administration.
  • Certified by the State of Alabama
  • At least three years of successful experience as a classroom teacher and two years successful experience as an administrator.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Reports to: Superintendent

Job Goal: To establish and maintain through effective leadership an educational climate within the school that fosters learning.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Assumes full responsibility for the organization, implementation, and administration of the total school program as it relates to students, faculty, and other assigned personnel.
  • Assumes responsibility for the supervision and evaluation of the instructional program and the assignment, supervision, supervision, and evaluation of all personnel involved in the total school program,
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary.
  • Assumes responsibility for providing conditions within the school which are conducive to learning.
  • Adheres to policies, principles, and procedures for internal school accounting as approved by the Bessemer Board of Education in compliance with the Internal School of Accounting Act.
  • Assumes responsibility for administering the funds allocated on a per-pupil basis to the school in a manner that will ensure maximum utilization of the funds.
  • Adheres to professional, ethical, and moral standards of conduct in the transaction of all school business.
  • Cooperates with those agencies of state and local governments which render services to students.
  • Establishes effective communication with students, teachers, parents, and community organizations and provides opportunities for community involvement in all phases of the school program.
  • Prepares and submits to the appropriate agencies (Bessemer Board of Education, State Department of Education, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, etc.) all required records and reports.
  • Administers the school program according to the standards of the local Board of Education, State Board of Education, and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be established by the Board through a contractual agreement. Salary in adherence and compliance with approved salary schedule.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on the Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
