Job Description

The Coordinator of Student Services and Academic Advisor for the Ashe Campus is responsible for providing student support services focused on recruitment, admissions, academic advising, retention, and student engagement. This position serves as a primary point of contact for prospective and current students, guiding them through the admissions process, academic planning, and available support services. The role is responsible for coordinating student-centered initiatives, including new student orientation, campus activities, and the food pantry, while fostering a supportive and inclusive campus environment.

In addition to advising responsibilities, the coordinator teaches College Student Success courses (ACA 115/122), collaborates on curriculum development, and actively monitors student progress to promote retention and completion. The position works closely with faculty, staff, and campus leadership to ensure students receive holistic support, including referrals to appropriate academic and student services resources.

This is a full-time, twelve-month position reporting to the Dean of Enrollment Services.

Essential Duties Summary

The position includes the following responsibilities and expectations:

Provide admissions and recruitment support at the Ashe Campus, including meeting with prospective students about programs of study, enrollment steps, placement testing, and outreach activities.

Coordinate new student orientation and student activities for the Ashe Campus.

Oversee the coordination of the Ashe Campus food pantry.

Conduct academic standing conferences with students who have been placed on academic probation and/or academic suspension.

Refer students, as appropriate, to support areas of Wilkes Community College, including Student Support Services, the Academic Support Center, Learning Resources Center, Student Services, the Writing Center, etc.

Teach College Student Success courses (ACA 115/122) each semester and collaborate with the Lead ACA Instructor on curriculum development, including syllabi, objectives, competencies, and assessments.

Assist students with the development of individual career and academic plans and proactively engage with students to monitor academic progress.

Create and maintain a classroom environment conducive to student learning.

Collaborate with faculty mentors in students' programs of study.

Responsible for the timely completion of administrative duties related to reports, grades, and other required documentation.

Communicate with students and administration through the technological framework provided by WCC.

Attend commencement exercises, committee, and task force meetings.

Provide support for the Ashe Campus Administrative Office.

Fulfilling other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications

> Master's degree in student development, higher education, or related area.

Physical Demands

Work is primarily performed under general supervision in an office setting with appropriate climate controls. Requires the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations. Requires strong written and verbal communication, administrative, and organizational skills. Must be able to work under pressure and handle all confidential matters with discretion. Travel, evening, and weekend work will be required.

Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills are important.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Essential functions of this position require lifting, manual dexterity, the ability to communicate, reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

Medium work: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting for long periods.

Salary Grade

Salary Hiring Salary Range: $50,000 to $60,000 based on education and experience
