Director of Technology
Reports To: Superintendent
Classification: Certified (Administrative)
Contract Length: 240
Position Summary
The Director of Technology provides district-level leadership in the planning, implementation, and management of instructional and operational technology systems. This position is responsible for aligning technology resources with district goals, supporting digital learning, ensuring compliance with Kentucky education technology requirements, and overseeing all technology infrastructure, systems, and personnel to enhance student achievement and district efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid Kentucky administrative certification
Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience in education
Demonstrated leadership experience in education
Knowledge of K-12 technology systems, cybersecurity practices, instructional technology integration, and student information systems
Supervisory experience preferred
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and monitor the district's comprehensive technology plan aligned to district goals
Provide leadership in the integration of technology to support teaching, learning, and assessment
Advise the Superintendent and district leadership on technology strategy, systems, and emerging trends
Coordinate district compliance with Kentucky education technology requirements (KETS)
Support the effective integration of technology into curriculum and instruction
Coordinate and/or provide professional learning for certified and classified staff on instructional technology tools and systems
Collaborate with district and school leaders to support digital learning initiatives and assessment platforms
Ensure technology supports equitable access to instructional resources
Oversee district cybersecurity practices, protocols, and risk mitigation strategies
Ensure compliance with state and federal data privacy laws and regulations
Coordinate data governance procedures related to student and staff information systems
Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans
Oversee the operation, maintenance, and improvement of district technology infrastructure, including networks, hardware, and software systems
Coordinate management of student information systems, instructional platforms, and communication systems
Supervise technology support services, including help-desk operations and device management
Ensure reliability, performance, and security of all technology systems
Personnel Supervision and Leadership
Supervise and evaluate technology department personnel
Assign and monitor work to ensure efficient and effective technology support services
Provide leadership, direction, and professional growth opportunities for technology staff
Budgeting and Resource Management
Develop and manage the district technology budget in alignment with district priorities
Coordinate the procurement, inventory, and lifecycle management of technology equipment and systems
Ensure effective and efficient use of district technology resources
Communication and Collaboration
Collaborate with district administrators, principals, and staff to support technology needs
Serve as a liaison between the district and external vendors, service providers, and state agencies
Communicate technology initiatives, expectations, and updates to stakeholders
Other Duties
Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong understanding of instructional technology integration and digital learning environments
Knowledge of K-12 technology infrastructure, systems, and support operations
Ability to lead district-level initiatives and manage complex systems
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Working Conditions
Office and school-based environment with district-wide responsibilities
Occasional evening or weekend work may be required
Ability to travel between district sites
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
May require occasional lifting of technology equipment
Evaluation
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with district policy for certified administrative personnel.
