Position Criteria:
Valid Iowa Teaching License, required
K-8 Teacher Librarian endorsement OR K-12 Master's in School Librarianship, required
Experience working with elementary level learners, preferred
Performance Criteria:
Flexible, highly motivated, and enthusiastic about working with children
Plan and facilitate lessons and experiences that promote reading, information literacy, and love for learning. This may include book clubs, reading challenges, author visits, and other engaging activities.
Demonstrate effective classroom management in routines and procedures that lead to a positive learning environment that promotes student achievement
Apply knowledge of a variety of developmentally appropriate instruction and formative assessment strategies to the growth of students of all ability levels
Help students with book selections, provide research assistance, and foster a positive and inclusive library environment.
Work closely with teachers, other educators, associates, and/or volunteers to support instruction, develop interdisciplinary projects, and promote a culture of reading and inquiry.
Demonstrate an understanding of the elements of a PLC in order to contribute and engage with the PLC
Demonstrate experience and proven ability in working with and growing diverse learners which include but are not limited to those served by Special Education, ELP, ESOL, and other programming
Display a willingness to collaborate with instructional coaches and other district leaders
Integrate information literacy skills into the curriculum.
Teach students how to find, evaluate, and use information effectively and responsibly.
Incorporate technology into library services, such as digital resources, online catalogs, and educational apps that enhance learning experiences.
Advocate for the importance of the library in the school community, highlighting its role in fostering literacy, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.
Select and acquire books, digital resources, and other materials suitable for elementary students.
Regularly purchase and weed books to ensure a diverse, up to date, and age-appropriate collection that aligns with the curriculum.
Catalog new materials, maintain an organized and accessible library layout, and implement systems to help students and staff locate resources easily.
Manage library budget, oversee circulation systems, process new materials, and handle administrative tasks related to the library's day-to-day operations.
Conduct an inventory of the school library collection and equipment annually at the end of the academic school year to ensure an accurate catalog.
Stay updated on new literature, educational technologies, and library trends through professional development opportunities.
Articulate effectively in oral and written communications
Commit to ongoing professional growth and development as described in the Iowa Professional Development Standards and support of the Iowa Teaching Standards as the foundation from which to build that ongoing growth plan.
