CHANDLER UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

JOB TITLE: DEAN

CALENDAR: 0212-FT

SALARY: CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL SALARY SCHEDULE

Job Goal:

The dean position is designed to support the administrative and instructional functions of the school site under the direction of the school principal due to high student enrollment.

Note: Dean positions are approved annually with a maximum length of three years.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's Degree in a related area

Principal Certification or currently enrolled in an administrative certification program

Minimum of five years of exemplary classroom teaching at the elementary level or similar experience in an educational setting

Core Job Functions:

The School Dean performs administrative duties under the supervision of the school principal, Assistant Superintendent including, but not limited to:

Instructional Leadership & Curriculum Support

Assist with the development and monitoring of CUSD curriculum implementation to meet the needs of all learners.

Support teachers in curriculum implementation and provide direct coaching at school sites.

Model research-based instructional strategies in classrooms and professional development settings.

Collaborate with instructional services (curriculum, special education, Title programs, professional development) to identify and integrate best practices.

Stay current with research, curriculum development trends, and instructional strategies.

Professional Development

Design and deliver professional development sessions aligned with student achievement data, site needs, and district goals.

Support the development of the site's professional development plan for all employees.

Partner with principals and key staff to provide ongoing training and instructional support.

Flexibility to work evenings and weekends for certified training and professional development sessions.

Data Analysis & School Improvement

Participate in school assessment teams quarterly.

Analyze and utilize summative, formative, and common assessment data to guide instructional decisions.

Assist with developing comprehensive school improvement plans, including goals, objectives, timelines, and resources.

Disaggregate and interpret test data for school improvement initiatives.

Teacher & Staff Support

Develop schedules for classroom observations, conferences, and follow-up activities.

Assist administration in interviewing and selecting candidates for positions.

Support orientation of new staff members and guest teachers.

Systematically evaluate staff performance and provide timely feedback for improvement.

Organize and supervise support staff for optimal performance.

Assist with certified and classified staff meetings to communicate policy changes, new programs, and operational updates.

Student Conduct & Discipline

Establish guidelines for acceptable student conduct and maintain discipline per CUSD policies.

Investigate and determine consequences for conduct referrals and incidents.

Collaborate with teachers and administrators to address behavioral and discipline issues.

Monitor tardies and absenteeism and take appropriate action.

Ensure due process procedures for students and staff as required by policy and law.

Document reportable behavior incidents using the district's web-based system.

Operational & Community Responsibilities

Organize school schedules to maximize academic learning time.

Assist with planning and implementing extracurricular activities.

Coordinate arrival/dismissal procedures, bus loading, and traffic flow.

Work with parents and community members to enhance positive relations.

Participate in the Mandatory Reporting Team as needed.

Professionalism & Compliance

Demonstrate effective time management and respond calmly to stressful situations.

Maintain positive school image among staff, parents, and community.

Follow all district policies and procedures.

Perform related duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the position.

Physical Requirements:

Positions in this classification often require physical activities such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, and sitting.

Employees may be exposed to travel, odors, dust, poor ventilation, workspace restrictions, and loud noises.
