BOURNE PUBLIC SCHOOLSSpeech and LanguageJob Description JD95Reports to: Director of Special Education and Student Services/PrincipalsJob Goal: To provide therapeutic services to identified students exhibiting communication and/orhearing impairments in order to develop receptive and expressive language skillsResponsibilities:
- Adhere to professional, ethical and legal standards of practice.
- Develop, implement and coordinate speech-language services within the Bourne Public Schoolcommunity.
- Evaluate students using appropriate tests, skilled professional observation and supplementaryinformation provided by collaterals as appropriate.
- Interpret assessment findings and appropriately convey information to parents and school teams.
- Participate with the school team to develop Individualized Education Programs and Section 504Plans.
- Develop and implement speech and language interventions and treatment strategies andmaintain data with fidelity.
- Complete medical billing documentation
- Evaluate and report on student progress.
- Communicate and consult with school staff, parents, administrators, physicians, community, andother professionals.
- Serve as a resource to parents, school team, staff and administration on varying disabilitycategories and their effects on student access to an education.
- Participate with improving school accessibility and planning environmental modification.
- Maintain student service, administrative and other departmental records in accordance withprofessional license, school district procedures and policies, and state and federal regulations.
- Procure, maintain and inventory equipment, materials, and supplies purchased by the district forspeech-language related services.Essential Functions of the Job:
- Maintain a record of regular attendance, arrive and depart at specified contractual times andnotify the appropriate personnel when absent
- Physical agility and strength to perform job related tasks appropriate for the age and/or gradelevel
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel,crouch, crawl, climb, and run
- Be able to occasionally lift and/or move students/objects
- Must be able to work in a noisy, stressful, high pressure environment and maintain student safety
- Ability to respond to emergency situations
- May be exposed to bodily fluids including saliva, urine, feces, vomit, blood, and/or other bodilyfluids
- May be required to assist with student personal hygiene and toileting
- Ability to complete district approved de-escalation and safety training
- Ensure confidentiality regarding all personal information and educational records concerningstudents and their families
- Maintain professional boundaries with students and families
- Participate, complete, and adhere to all district wide mandatory trainings, including but not limitedto confidentiality, civil rights, conflict of interest, technology use, and security requirements
- Continually pursue professional training to keep skills current, participate in in-service training,programs, attend courses, attend department meetings, etc.
- While performing the job, communicate effectivelyQualifications:Valid Massachusetts DESE and Board of Registration of Speech-Language Pathology and AudiologyLicenses as a Speech TherapistPreferred American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) CertificationExperience in the school settingEvaluation: In accordance with the Collective Bargaining AgreementTerms of Employment: In accordance with the Collective Bargaining AgreementApproved by School Committee 01/06/
