BOURNE PUBLIC SCHOOLSSpeech and LanguageJob Description JD95Reports to: Director of Special Education and Student Services/PrincipalsJob Goal: To provide therapeutic services to identified students exhibiting communication and/orhearing impairments in order to develop receptive and expressive language skillsResponsibilities:

  1. Adhere to professional, ethical and legal standards of practice.
  2. Develop, implement and coordinate speech-language services within the Bourne Public Schoolcommunity.
  3. Evaluate students using appropriate tests, skilled professional observation and supplementaryinformation provided by collaterals as appropriate.
  4. Interpret assessment findings and appropriately convey information to parents and school teams.
  5. Participate with the school team to develop Individualized Education Programs and Section 504Plans.
  6. Develop and implement speech and language interventions and treatment strategies andmaintain data with fidelity.
  7. Complete medical billing documentation
  8. Evaluate and report on student progress.
  9. Communicate and consult with school staff, parents, administrators, physicians, community, andother professionals.
  10. Serve as a resource to parents, school team, staff and administration on varying disabilitycategories and their effects on student access to an education.
  11. Participate with improving school accessibility and planning environmental modification.
  12. Maintain student service, administrative and other departmental records in accordance withprofessional license, school district procedures and policies, and state and federal regulations.
  13. Procure, maintain and inventory equipment, materials, and supplies purchased by the district forspeech-language related services.Essential Functions of the Job:
  14. Maintain a record of regular attendance, arrive and depart at specified contractual times andnotify the appropriate personnel when absent
  15. Physical agility and strength to perform job related tasks appropriate for the age and/or gradelevel
  16. Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel,crouch, crawl, climb, and run
  17. Be able to occasionally lift and/or move students/objects
  18. Must be able to work in a noisy, stressful, high pressure environment and maintain student safety
  19. Ability to respond to emergency situations
  20. May be exposed to bodily fluids including saliva, urine, feces, vomit, blood, and/or other bodilyfluids
  21. May be required to assist with student personal hygiene and toileting
  22. Ability to complete district approved de-escalation and safety training
  23. Ensure confidentiality regarding all personal information and educational records concerningstudents and their families
  24. Maintain professional boundaries with students and families
  25. Participate, complete, and adhere to all district wide mandatory trainings, including but not limitedto confidentiality, civil rights, conflict of interest, technology use, and security requirements
  26. Continually pursue professional training to keep skills current, participate in in-service training,programs, attend courses, attend department meetings, etc.
  27. While performing the job, communicate effectivelyQualifications:Valid Massachusetts DESE and Board of Registration of Speech-Language Pathology and AudiologyLicenses as a Speech TherapistPreferred American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) CertificationExperience in the school settingEvaluation: In accordance with the Collective Bargaining AgreementTerms of Employment: In accordance with the Collective Bargaining AgreementApproved by School Committee 01/06/
