POSITION TITLE:

Assistant Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • At least three years successful experience as a classroom teacher
  • Valid certification as administrator and/or supervisor
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead, manage and support strategic and operation goals of the system in areas of responsibility
  • Such alternatives or additional qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

JOB GOALS:

  • Responsible for assisting the Principal with leadership, direction, supervision, operations, and accountability at the assigned high school.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining students; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • To assist the principal in providing an environment of high expectations for staff and students.

Assigned faculty and staff by principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in communicating and clarifying the school's mission to students, staff, and community.
  • Assists in the planning, development, organization, coordination, and supervision of instructional programs and activities; interprets, implements, and evaluates the district's approved curriculum program in light of individual school needs.
  • Assists the principal in securing, maintaining, and managing material resources.
  • Assists in providing leadership to the professional staff in determining objectives and identifying school needs as the basis for developing long and short-range plans for the school.
  • Plans and accomplishes personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics.
  • Assists in the supervision of student enrollment, records, attendance, and health requirements.
  • Develops plans for emergency situations, in cooperation with staff and public safety agencies.
  • Maintains a commitment to ongoing growth in self and others, supporting and participating in district and site professional growth programs.
  • Relates to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy.
  • Assists in providing a safe, orderly environment that facilitates teaching and learning.
  • Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, with follow-up student/parent contact where necessary.
  • Assists in interpreting and enforcing federal and state laws and state and local board policies.
  • Assists the principal in assuming responsibility for scheduling.
  • Assists in ensuring that students receive appropriate placement and services.
  • Assists the principal in personnel functions: supervising, observing, and evaluating teachers and staff.
  • Assists in providing professional growth opportunities for staff.
  • Assists in providing a climate of high expectations for staff and students.
  • Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school and assumes leadership of the school in the absence of the principal.
  • Work is performed in a high school environment subject to constant interruptions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Principal or designee

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

EVALUATION:

Eleven-month position in accordance with Board approved salary schedule.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Tarrant City Board of Education policy on evaluation of classified personnel.

This is an exempt position.
