Qualifications: Library Media Specialist Certification from the KY Educational Professional Standards Board.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Develop short and long-range goals which guide the development of the Library Media Program.
  1. Develop and implement polices and procedures for the operation of the Library Media Program that promote student achievement (e.g. selection, circulation, scheduling).
  1. Plan and implement a technologically advanced facility and program.
  1. Evaluate LMC programs, services, facilities, and materials to insure optimum use of the library media center and its resources.
  1. Train and supervise LMC assistants, student assistants, and adult volunteers, to perform duties efficiently.
  1. Withdraw obsolete and worn materials.
  1. Establish and follow procedures for maintenance and repair of all media.
  1. Teach information literacy skills as an integral part of units and lessons.
  1. Assist teachers and students in applying information resources and information literacy skills into the classroom curriculum.
  1. Provide professional development and access to professional materials and information for school staff.
  1. Adhere to and inform faculty and staff of established laws, policies, rules, and regulations.
  1. Prepare and administer the library media program budget.
  1. Consult with faculty in the selection of materials and equipment.
  1. Coordinate the evaluation, selection, acquisition and the processing of books, materials, and equipment.
  1. Prepare and distribute books, materials, and equipment for use by the faculty and students.
  1. Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library media materials, and instruct teachers and students on use of the system.
  1. Maintain the LMC to be functional and have an attractive and orderly environment which encourages maximum use, focusing on student achievement.
  1. Prepare all local and state library records and reports promptly.
  1. Participate in curriculum meetings when appropriate.
  1. Council with and give reading guidance to students who have special reading problems or unusual intellectual interests.
  1. Arrange frequently changing, book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest the library’s patrons.
  1. Supervise hall, bus duty, breakfast, and lunch programs, as instructed by school administration.
  1. Demonstrate positive interpersonal relations by interacting effectively with and demonstrating respect for the views, rights and contributions of parents, teachers and other school personnel.
  1. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of students and staff.
  1. Adhere to the professional Codes of Ethics adopted by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board.
  1. Administer health services to students as necessary including, but not limited to, the administration of

medication; the operation, maintenance, or health care through the use of medical equipment; or the

administration of clinical procedures.

  1. Maintain appropriate professional appearance.
  1. Act as a consistent positive public relations agent for school and district programs and activities.
  1. Maintain confidentiality of information regarding individual students and their families.
  1. Implement and adhere to all rules and regulations, policies, administrative guidelines, and directives as adopted by the Board of Education, Principal, Administrative Staff, Superintendent and School Based Decision Making Council.
  1. Maintain acceptable personal attendance without repeated unexcused absences, tardiness, absences without notification, or abuse of sick leave.
  1. Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Principal, Administrative Staff, or Superintendent of Schools.
