Position: Lead School Nurse, Extra Duty Position

Qualifications: Required: Registered nurse with at least five years of experience in school nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing with school nurse certification. Preferred: National School Nurse Certification
Supplemental Pay: $4,000 per year
Effective: 2026-2027 School Year
Responsibilities: In addition to abiding by established laws, policies, rules, and regulations of a school nurse, the lead school nurse shall have the following extra-duty responsibilities and duties:
To act as a liaison between the West Virginia Department of Education and the county nursing department.
To oversee the county's health policy and procedures.
To be the county contact for communicable disease control.
To coordinate and facilitate county-level health screenings.
To coordinate county-level CPR, First Aid, AED, and medication training.
To be the point of contact for district-level administrators for the county's health policy and procedures.
To provide essential information to school-level administrators.
To provide essential information to school nurses.
To coordinate support for newly hired school nurses.
To collaborate with the attendance and callout system secretary with staffing, including absences, field trips, etc.
To coordinate in-service training for school nurses.
To coordinate school nurse meetings.
To review, align, and update all school health forms across the county, as needed.
To participate in the interviews for vacant RN, LPN, and substitute RN and LPN positions.
To collaborate with supervisor(s) regarding Medicaid billing for students identified under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
To collect information and data from other school nurses, as needed.
To collaborate with the safety director for emergency response and preparedness planning.
To report to the Director of School Safety
To report to the Director of Special Education
To ensure that the school's health policies and procedures comply with federal, state, and local
standards
